I was recently asked if I had any pictures showing a set of blanks turning into grips, I just so happen to have some so I thought i'd post them up.

the blanks are English Walnut.

the holes are drilled.

grips are fit to the frame and the plunger tube cut is made.

http://i1268.photobucket.com/albums/jj568/telemaster1953/IMG_6639_zpstnscub8b.jpg (http://s1268.photobucket.com/user/telemaster1953/media/IMG_6639_zpstnscub8b.jpg.html)

http://i1268.photobucket.com/albums/jj568/telemaster1953/IMG_6641_zpshm9shjxp.jpg (http://s1268.photobucket.com/user/telemaster1953/media/IMG_6641_zpshm9shjxp.jpg.html)

the grips are rough shaped.

then they are sanded to a finer grit.

they are sanded to the shape I want.

grips are then hand sanded to 220 grit, the covered plunger tube area is shaped, and the magazine release notch is cut.

the ambi safety cut is made.

Very cool and more proof that knowledge isn't talent. Give me Zane's materials, tools and step by step instructions ... I'll come back with something suitable for kindling :D

Thanks for showing that! The sanding the curve is pure artistry. I dont have the skills to make that curve. Mine would be all out of round and flat spots and high spots and holes off from where they are supposed to be.

Thanks once again for showing the steps. As soon as I get a keeper 1911 I will have to get an order in!

Very impressive work Zane. The unlikely, to me, looking blanks made a very impressive set of grips. dennis
