Have you ever noticed... you go into a store.... could be a gunshop, could be K-Mart or Sears... could be a high end uber rich business..... doesn't matter... because when you walk in .... You're ignored. The people around you don't care what you're looking for, and the staff really seems "put out" if you ask them to help you find something? I find that it happens to me fairly often. Of course... there are those who would say "you're being too sensitive".... and "it's the way things are now...".... and they of course... may be right.

I'm a member on several forums and just as importantly... several forum types. Particularly guns and woodworking. And I find the same attitudes there as I describe above. Flames, ignored questions, no thanks when good advice is given....

There are one or two notable exceptions. And COTEP is one of them. I've watched the moderators and the old timer regulars (anyone with more time than me!!!!) and the level of commitment and camaraderie (God knows if I've spelled that right).... is way up there. Its nice to not get flamed, or ignored. Questions are answered, advice is given, and the words "good for you" and good job are seen quite often.

Of course.... I haven't bought a Kimber or a Fusion....

The point here is.... THANKS to those who run the forum, and THANKS to the regulars on the forum who keep the place alive. (And a shameless plug for the forum owners.... If you don't have a yellow "Cotep Supporter" tag next to your posting name.... grab your credit card and hit the donate key. Throw a few bucks to help pay for bandwidth.)

This, my friends.... is a 7am muse from 20 degree Connecticut. It's my story.... and I'm sticking to it!

Great post. There are a lot of folks who don't like COTEP, but that is mainly because they haven't taken the time to find who who we are and what we are about. Great family here, I like it and will stay until they kick me out. LOL :D:D

Thanks for the kind words and support DaFadda. I got a kick out of the Kimber comment too. When I first started building this site I was afraid people wouldn't like it. A lot of forums just crop up and for the most part they seem like copy cats of the big forum with the same BS. I really wanted the COTEP site to be different. A place worthy of the cause to to say.

This is just my .02 cents worth lets get back to talking about guns and a little less jokes.

Yes I know ok , except some people have other things like families and other obligiations. When Alex first started this i was the only one on here for hours. Then my mother needed me to watch over her and I have my own problems. Using me as and example.

Yes we have members who are on here more then once a day.

C lyde, no ones denying what you've done for COTEP in the past, not at all !! For the most part we all have families and other obligations/jobs etc. Hell, I'm taking care of my Mother (87) and her house as well as my family and our home, I'm retired from one job and, not that I have to but, out of boredom, I'm working another job, and, coaching college baseball. I’m leaving the house around 8:00 to go ‘scout/recruit’ players, I’ll be back on later today. Pop in more often C lyde !!

For me, it’s partly a technical challenge. For some reason, whenever I visit COTEP, there are no new posts. It would appear if no one has used the site, but when I look at the history, I then see all the posts since the last time I visited, but they are all marked as if I read them. So I have to go through each thread and figure out what I’ve read or not to stay up to speed.

When I have time, it’s not too much of a problem. But a lot of days, I just don’t have time to run through them.

All of the unread posts show up in bold on my computer. You can always just look at the date in the "Last Post" column.

Are you going to the main page? http://cotep.org

Odd, I don't have to go through any contortions like that. The main page shows the latest posts in reverse chronological order. The ones I haven't read are in bold. Easy peasy...I wonder if it is some setting???

I have tapatalk installed on my phone as well. I’ll use the laptop for COTEP visits while at home, Tapatalk while out and about, Between the two I’d choose the laptop over Tapatalk everytime, no doubt.
Using the laptop, after signing in, I go to:
*Quick Links
*Todays Posts
…. and the latest posts are there front and center.
I also will go to:
*Quick Links
*Who’s online
…. to see what threads/posts the guests are viewing, They pull up some good ones, and, some not-so-good ones that shed some light on things in the past.

Oh sweet. This is what I want my next house to look like.

Here's some quick facts Alex:

30’W x 38’D footprint
Full basement w/4 bedrooms/ 2 full baths/mechanical room
Full bath on main floor/mud room-laundry room/walk-in closet
Open main floor plan with full kitchen/dinning room/great room
Wood burning stove main floor w/forced air furnace
Open 1/2 loft
Over 4500 lineal ft of 6” tongue/groove cedar used on vaulted ceiling and interior prow front
All cedar trim
6”x24”x38’ ceiling beam
2”x6” walls / 2”x12” ceiling on 16” center
140ft frontage on private all sports spring fed lake
2 car garage/shed
140ft deep 4” well
12/12 roof pitch / 12* prow front done in stained cedar shake
30’x20’ paver brick patio
Elk/deer/bear/fish-beaver/bald eagle-hawks-owls-turkey/etc.

“I” built it in 2001, took me 1yr working weekends, vacation time, holidays and then some, liked to kill me, don’t regret it at all but will never do it again. I had someone dig the basement and rough in the electrical/plumbing.
Oh, had someone mud the drywall too.

This sounds awesome! Impressive that you got it done on your own in a year. I'm currently thinking 28'x40' footprint and considering doing a half basement with the master bedroom end on a slab with radiant. I only want just 1 bedroom 1-1/2 baths with a loft above the back half. Then a breezeway with attached 2 car garage. I'm going to buy an excavator to build the road into my lot after I finish with my daughters house. Here's a pictorial with some plans that I edited a little.

^^ Very nice !!

This sounds awesome! Impressive that you got it done on your own in a year......

The 1 year didn't include the garage/shed and the paver brick patio projects but got me the occupancy permit, it was 99% complete just had a few loose ends to complete. When it was complete I didn't go there for 2 months ... flat burned-out!!
I did have some help here and there, eg: setting the 2 commercial grade fixed glass units above the door walls, those are 6'w x 14'h at the tall point and weigh roughly 500lbs each. Had to set up scaffolding to set all of the upper glass.
Only thing I regret NOT doing is a metal roof vs. shingles and is something I would recommend, the 12/12 pitch definitely saves wear and tear on the shingles but the metal roof is 'forever' and roofing a 12/12 (= 45* angle) is a b!tch !!

Did you run into any trouble with the gable end being set at angles? I love the look but wondering if I should just have a straight wall instead.
