Late last year I stopped at one of my "regular" gun shops - Modern Elite Firearms in Hill Country Village, TX (surrounded by San Antonio). The owner, Chris, said you know about Colts right? I said sure. He came out with a very nice looking Gold Cup National Match with a 3 digit serial number, suffixed by a -NM. This was an early 1957 National Match - the first year of Colt's reintroduction of the GCNM.

The serial number side is almost perfect; Chris said the owner wanted $1,500 for it; but Chris disagreed with the value. Told the owner he wouldn't display it in the case but would put it on line. Then Chris turned it over and showed me the left side...OMG guys - the owner actually admitted to using a flat tip screwdriver to remove the slide stop! I told Chris I'd give the owner $800 for the gun - what I thought it was worth. Next day it was mine!

You can tell in the pictures just what it is!

at least the slide stop hides most of the damage!

And now the ugly:

I just ordered some semi-wadcutter match ammo to see how it shoots. If it's like any GCMN it should shoot well!

well, it will shoot awesome unless he tried some more monkey at home gun repair1 DAMN that is hard to look at!!

I would actually consider reblueing it. Normally I am not into refinishing a gun but that is UGLY!!

That's a damn shame  .... Somebody needs to take a flat tip screwdriver to 'his' slide stop !!
Let us know how it performs ...

Let us know how it performs ...

2 or 3 shots between the eyes... (while twisting the handle!)

Depending on how deep the scratches it can be cleaned up. The toughest thing will be the gorgeous deep colt pressure bluing. You might contact the Colt custom shop. It would be worth fixing that baby.

You are not supposed to use a screwdriver? Hmmmm, learn something new everyday.

That’s still a nice pistol.
