I finally finished my first AR project. I built the lower and bought a complete upper from JSE Surplus. I had a full length handguard on at first, but just recently changed it out. I like the new one better. Here are a few shots of the finished product. I still need to make a decision on an optic though.

Congrats! Nice looking. It's always nice to get the first one completed. I have spares to build 2more at some point.

Looks good. What kind of optic are you considering?

I'm on the fence between the Vortex Strikefire and the Nikon P-223 3-9x40.

This is what I use on the M4 I built. They are fantastic! http://www.jprifles.com/1.6.2.php I've got this one, TA01JP ACOG Package with JPOINT4.

Very nice! But way out of my price range considering this was supposed to be a "budget" build.

Also considering the P-223 3x32 but nobody has them in stock.

My local gun shop has some Aimpoint Comp M-2, military sights. They're waterproof, nitevision compatable and has an extra battery compartment. They go for $700 new and they're selling them for $350. For anyone who's interested. My son-in-law bought one and he loves it.

I bought this one for my first. Wasn't all that expensive but seems to be good glass.

I'm on the fence between the Vortex Strikefire and the Nikon P-223 3-9x40.

Those would both fit the bill for range work. When it comes to hard core use red dot optics, Aimpoints are where it's at.

I actually went ahead and bought the P-223 in 3x32. I've got enough high powered scopes on other guns and have a Rem 700 in .223 with an 18x scope. I wanted a little magnification though. Seemed to fit the bill. It's on backorder everywhere so I will be waiting a while I guess.

Nice rifle. Did you ever get your optic?

Slick build. I always love the look of the stainless barrels. Did you ever think of the M223 1-4x scope? I have one on my rifle and and get really solid hits out to 300 with no issues at all...but if you do go that way do not get the point blank retical. I have that on mine and I am not a fan. Id rather have the standard nikoplex.

Good luck! Im sure that thing is gonna be a tack driver.
