First the at8s is a great feeling gun. Shoots easily. It is easy to keep on target. I do need to get a taller front sight for it to drop it down. at 50ft, it is almost 3" high. that being said it is quick on target and quick follow up. The DA/SA needs some work for me. It is a much longer DA pull than i am used to. Much longer than my HK usp, but about 1 billion times smoother. Here is a photo of it. The body shots are da/sa the head shots are SA only.

For the head shots i was aiming where the neck meets the shoulders. for the body shots i was aiming at the x ring. So it needs a bit of adjustment. Front sight first. I only put about 100 rounds through it.

I moved on to the Heritage RZ45. Here is my email to Dan Wesson service.

Hello,

I picked up my 4th and 5th DW 1911 on friday the 4th. Rounding out my Pm-7, guardian 9mm and Vbob. I picked up the DW rz10 and DW Heritage RZ 45. I noticed that the RZ45 was pretty stiff. But i racked the slide 20 times or so, then broke it down and wiped it down with hoppes, dried it and re-oiled it with the little bottle of included oil. I worked the slide a few dozen more times. Commenting to the Cotep group that it was tighter than an accountants wallet. It and I went to the range today. I loaded 3 rounds into the factory mag. First shot went 9 inches low, and 10 inches Left. The second shot was more on target.

However at that point the slide was locked back approximately 3/4". It had cleanly ejected the empty case but did not chamber the 3rd round. The slide was locked in place. I had to box the gun come home and use a dead blow rubber mallet to ease it forward. I then rotated the bushing and dropped the recoil spring and cap. I rotated the bushing the other direction and drifted the slide back to where i could pull the slide stop. After pulling it i used my dead blow to slowly tap the frame forward. After a long while the two separated cleanly. I have no broken parts or pieces, but the slide and frame will not slide back together more than 1". The barrel is extremely tight to the locking lugs, the barrel link will only rotate about 30* forward with out pressure. When pushed it will go all the way forward, when going back it stops at the place it gets stuck at. I am a little worried about trying to mate the slide and frame back together. I would like to send it in to have the DW guru's go over it one more time.

The next question is I have the DWrz10 also. I am wondering if you have any left over 40s&w barrels, bushings, springs and mags from the pm40, If i sent this in would it be possible to have a 40 s&w barrel and bushing mated to it also? For that matter could i also get a 9mm or super 38 mated to it also?

That's too bad about the 45 Grouse. I bet the guys at DW will fix you up.

Sorry to hear about the RZ45. Bad time to need service too with the whole fire at HQ. Hopefully it can get fixed quickly.

Well Spoke with Keith via email. They are in the process, Dan Wesson that is, of moving to a new building. They are not doing repair work on guns at this point. They are shipping everything to CZ custom shop in AZ. He did mention that the rails had developed some burrs and need to be re-mated together.

I called cz custom shop but have not heard back.

So i figured what the flark. the gun is not working, lets have at it.

I have 4k cloth paper. The equivalent of 4k sandpaper Though used a bit differently. I wrapped it around a highly sophisticated and finely measure tool. (popsicle stick) oiled it and began sanding the rails.
where it was before

After about 4 hours i was able to get it on past the 1/2inch mark.

At this point i started using just oil and bore paste micro polish. Er bore bright fro J-B. I racked the slide a bajillion times. till it went back fully and smoothly. This is where i was at.

It worked well, and now the slide moves freely.

I put it all back together and oiled everything very heavily. the only thing that seems to bind is the barrel hood.

I will have to shoot the thing for function testing. After that i may put a bit of bore bright on the barrel hood and rack it a few bajillion more times. That should smooth it up nicely.

It is pretty common on the all stainless DW's thet need a high viscosity oil on the slide while breaking them in because the slides or so tight. I had my own dead blow hammer experience. Sounds like you are on the right track.

First occasional for me. neither the pm7 or the vbob had an issue.

I do love some of the more helpful posts i have been given on the big forum.

Thanks for the support, it took a bit of work, i'm not afraid of that.

So went to the range to do a function test of my work yesterday. I ran 400 flawless rounds through it. I took photos at 300.

Put 3 rounds in a mag, then 5, then 8 in each of the two mags. I shot 2 rounds, saftey, then 1 round. Rinse and repeat for 300 rounds.

Here is what it looked like at 300 rounds.

Really glad things worked out so well for you. Just wish more folks would take the time to deburr their SS guns first as that eliminates the potential for a whole lot of heartache :)

Best!
Bob
