I guess I am on a Springer kick!

Got it used ... it was FILTHY! But it is fairly tight. Trigger is not great but the rest of the gun is in very good shape after a detail strip and an hour in the ultrasonic clearer. I will bead blast it to really clean it up and it will look like new!

Now ... what to do with it (or to it)???

I am thinking old school pin gun. Compensators are COOL! I know they don't make a darned bit of difference on a 45 but ... like I said ... COOL! Ordered a magwell already and have a ton of spare parts to upgrade as needed. Will do some trigger work too.

That is a very nice looking pistol. You seem to be looking for opinions and I have a head full. I'm with AutoMag, I'd leave as it is. A clean 1911 is beautiful in my eyes.

There are some American icons that are just right as they come from the factory. That looks like one of them.

Well ... she shoots great!!! I really wasn't expecting a significant improvement in accuracy or felt recoil but got both. I need to do some polishing and spring tuning to get it to run reliably with light target loads but it ran great with WWB 230s. Had several friends shoot it side by side with a standard 5" 1911 and they were floored. Said it shot like a 9mm and the groups were excellent. Still have some work ahead of me but this thing looks really promising at this point!

For closure ... I changed out the ejector (Wilson) and the extractor (Nighthawk) and went down to a 9 pound spring. Also polished the ramp, throat and chamber. I am shooting Federal Gold Medal Match 185s (which are incredibly accurate and light shooting ... and expensive) and plan on working up a load that performs similarly. The gun ran 100% in a match tonight and shot dead flat with the Federal load. I am really happy with the outcome on this project and would highly recommend the Clark barrel/comp if you are into such things. This Springer ROCKS!
