Here is my favorite AR build as of yet, and one made almost entirely of spare parts laying around my house.

I introduce you to the "Battle Mutt"

Here is the short list of parts. I think I counted 15 different brands of stuff haha.

PSA Upper
RRA Lower
Rainier Arms 14.5" CHF barrel, and Bolt Carrier Group
AAC Blackout flash hider pinned and welded on
Magpul ACS, MOE Grip, MBUS Pro Sights
KNS pins
American Defense MFG Riser
Bushnell TRS 25
Vltor A5 stock system
Sprinco Rifle length spring
Bravo Company KMF 13" rail, and large charging handle
Noveske Handguard kit, QD mount, and 4 slot keymod rail
Inforce WML multi funciton
Blue force gear sling
Gear Sector Endplate

Thats all I can think of off the top of my head. So far this thing is a super straight shooter, and very low recoil. I love the barrel being as short as possible as well.

That's a great setup, love it!

I like the 14.5" bbl as well, running that length on my lightweight.

Well done.

I've been wanting to build an AR - I've never owned one. Is there a good reference or parts list or how to for building one? The problem with the Interwebs is there's a lot of bad info out there.

Also, doesn't a 14.5" barrel count as an SBR, and require an ATF stamp?

Nice build...... you had some pretty expensive parts just laying around the house.

Also, doesn't a 14.5" barrel count as an SBR, and require an ATF stamp?

LaneHe stated that the flash hider was pinned and welded on. Once this is done the barrel and muzzle device have become permanently attached and result in a 16" overall length barrel. Therefore it isn't a SBR.

Nice. One day I might do a build but my first AR is going to be fully assembled by Colt so I have a solid point of reference :D

Is that a 40 round mag?

I didnt have the rail, barrel or BCG laying around. I did have a bunch of other spare parts hanging out that got sold to help me afford some of the other stuff. The upper, lower, stock, and buffer setup were left over from a build I started but just didnt finish. And also the like it was mentioned the 14.5" barrel has a 2.25" flash hider welded to it. I didnt feel like doing the SBR paper work and that is the work around. You just HAVE to make sure that the gas block and barrel and hider and rail and barrel nut are exactly what you want since they wont ever come back off again haha.

There really isnt a good place for reference as far as parts, and it can be very hard to weed through bad information on the net for sure. I would check out weapon outfitters. They always have quality gear. I dont think they sell anything that sucks at all. Ive emailed Roy at weapon outfitters a few times with questions and he is normally very good at replying with great information about quality of gear and things like that.
