I would appreciate the experiences and opinions of you good folks on here concerning Remington, Ruger, and Smith and Wesson 1911s. I have my feelings on the subject to want to hear from others. Thanks ahead of time.

No experience but, I have always wanted a Ruger since they came out in the 1911 line. The Smiths are nice looking as well. Subbed for others experiences as well.

I've shot both full size and commander size Rugers and they were great shooters! eventually i'm going to get one of the commanders.

I almost got a ruger but the mags are different or were they are not a standard 1911 so for that reason alone I passed. My FIL has one and runs well. Didn't care fror the Rem...the smiths have imo have one of the best factory triggers you can find, very nice.

That's interesting. I'm a longtime S&W loyalist. My AR is an M&P. Would the nice trigger make considering the S&W against a Colt in the Commander size worth doing? Any other pros or cons specific to those two brands?

For what it is worth. S&W has mim parts. Colt does not.

Does not surprise me Ruger would do that.

really? I was using my colt magazines when I shot the Rugers, they seemed like a standard 1911 to me.

I'm 100% biased but Colt is ... well, it's Colt. Why settle for a Ruger or Remington? All my revos are S&W - they're the only wheel gun for me.

A friend of mine has the Ruger. He asked me about mags and I showed him my Tripp Cobras. He bought some and now he's a "mag snob".

MAGS:

My FIL has a ruger 1911 right when they came out and the mags were not user freindly with any other gun. I could not use the ruger in his kimber or vise versa. Might have been changed by now......

Anybody have both?

I have two R1s and enjoy both of them. I've looked at the Smith and Ruger to add to the family. I really like the Smith. Ruger is a good product but I've seen mixed reviews when it comes to accuracy. This is one of the reasons I have solicited what you folks have to say.
