Couldn't stand it any longer. I guess if I'm going to get into 1911s, I might as well jump into the deep end. Picked up a Dan Wesson Valor.

The trigger is beautiful. Feels nice in the hand. Will prep it and take it to the range for a break in period once I pick up some more ammo.

So what advice do you guys have? All my other handguns are polymers so I know I've got a lot to learn.

Yeah. Decided to pull the trigger so to speak.

outstanding. You'll love it, Andy.

Practice closing your fist..that's how a 1911 operates. As you close it, the palm disengages the grip safety, the thumb disengages the thumb safety, and the finger squeezes the trigger.

Browse the dremel room here for some tips, also. Congrats. Plus, I'm a bad influence for other reasons :p

Thanks, Mike.

Pig, I've known you are a bad influence for other reasons. I still remember what you asked me to do to Barbie the last times saw her. I'll check out the Dremel room.

Very nice. Congratulations on the first of many to come.

If you want to practice on one a little less expensive I'll be glad to swap with you for a while. Just until you feel comfortable of course.

My wife decided at the same time that she wanted a plinker, so she bought a P22.

She asked me to load some videos of disassembly of the P22, so we're sitting here watching NutanFancy and others while she eats popcorn.

It was fun filling out 4473s at the same time.

Hopefully the 22 will look half as nice on you as the Valor looks on her. :) Very nice shooter and a GREAT first 1911. Better get to work lining up another, brother. Life is short AND a happy wife makes a happy life.

Congrats to you for your Valor and congrats to your wife for her Walther.

Advice? Keep it well lubed during break in and try not to put an idiot scratch in it when reassembling it.

If you follow this video, you are guaranteed not to put an idiot scratch in it.

Andy, I forgot to add this. It's by far the easiest to follow tutorial for completely taking a 1911 down to the frame!

What a very sh...y thing to say to someone that just bought a new Valor. You would expect better from some folks.

Congrats and beautiful pistola! I have a Vbob. I also have a RIA tactical and I wish that I saved for an ECO instead. I am in love with DW. Like someone said keep it well lubed. I also, after I cleaned and lubed it racked the slide about 250x to help breakin a bit. Mine ran without a hitch. CAn't wait to see arange report and pics!

Just as an FYI, on my CCO prior to it's first trip to the range I cleaned it / lubed with the DW oil provided. I then racked the slide 200+ times, removed the slide, cleaned the rails, etc and re-lubed, did this procedure twice. I also loaded the mags up and let them sit for a few days prior to the range trip. Went through 250 rds on it’s maiden voyage with no issues what so ever.
With regard to the ‘idiot scratch’ prevention, there’s a mod you can perform to the slide stop that is of great benefit to preventing the dreaded ‘idiot scratch’ and can easily be done with a needle file. The DW's are tight!! and I would highly recommend the above, along with the slide stop mod!!
Read through this thread for info on the SS mod:
