V-Bob ammo question
Hello All,
Well I'm a little let down today after my range trip. I put 100 rounds through my vbob today, That made a total of 300 through the gun with cleaning during this breakin time. Not one problem at all through 300. I thought today I would try after shooting 100 rounds of round nose ammo I would try and feed it a magazine of speer gold dot 230 gr. hp ammo. I racked the slide and ftf straight into the feed ramp. tried another mag ftf 2nd round. Is the gun not broke in does the feed ramp need polised or just don't use that ammo. I figured this gun should digest anything clean or dirty. Help a brother out. Good Day to all |
I don't (yet) own a V-Bob, but I have two other 1911s. Neither feeds well with the Gold Dot. The round nosedives as with you.
I have found, in my limited experience, that the Gold Dot seems shorter than other makes. My two 1911s run quite well with Golden Saber hollow points. Compared side-to-side, they are visibly longer than the Gold Dots. Regards, |
There's a reason they call Gold Dot "flying ashtrays". The extreme size of the cavity can be problematic in some autos due to the nose profile

Are you familiar with the three types of feed lips on 1911 mags?

I always use round nose bullets.

Well I spoke with Glen at DW and he said that he would send a shipping label and said when he returned it it would feed anything. 3 weeks though was to long at this point so he told me to polish feed ramp with 2000# or finer with fp10. S o I got after it with 2000-3000# and it now sends those gold dots home with no effort. I still will carry something other that those.
thanks for all the feedback. |
That's great. Should'a been polished already though IMO.
