Plate Carriers, Body Armor

Been thinking of adding a plate carrier with plates into one of my systems. With everything that’s been going on as of late it has me thinking of buying one of these. https://www.ar500armor.com/plate-car...r-modular.html This unit is modular and priced right. Anyone have any experience with this company? I can purchase the carrier now and then upgrade it as needed. I will add a cummerbund with side plates later on. Also would like to get a mag holder for AR mags as well as pistol mags to attach to the moly. This way I have extra ammo on my person and ready to rock. I will use this for shtf scenarios and if we have to leave the safety of the home.

For more of a concealment carrier, I’m looking at this guy https://www.ar500armor.com/plate-car...con-2-blk.html But, you obviously lose the ability to carry mags and gear on it.

I’m looking at running level lll+ plates either in ceramic or hybrids. Steel is just too damn heavy.

This is a new avenue for me so, looking for advice or recommendations from you more experienced fellers. What say you?

Now, you’re in my wheelhouse.

Does this answer your question if I dealt with the company.

Now, to get to the nitty gritty. Yes. I’ve dealt with the company but only with their plates. I use another modular carrier.

These plates, front and back, are approximately 6 1/2 lbs apiece.
Something to think about. Plate, carrier and loaded mags you’ll be lugging around an additional 15 to 17lbs.
There are composite plates out there that are a pound or two lighter but to get the rifle protection rating you’re going to need makes them very thick and cumbersome.

Again, not familiar with their carrier but I’ve had detectives that had them before I retired and didn’t hear any complaints or seen any issues.

My carrier is Velocity System and is modular with the Travis Hayley carrier system. I can attach my carrier or the plate carrier or if I need to be light just the mag carrier.
See below.

Just the carrier.

Just the mag carrier with harness.

Mag carrier separated from the harness and attached to the plate carrier.

Hope that helped.

Thanks Tony, that helps. I’m looking for something that can hold my mags and Med kit if I ever have to gtfo of town and the world has gone to shit. Or rioters trying to bust down the door. 17-18#s is doable for a short period of time so, that’s not too bad.

In my case I’m better off staying put and barricading myself in my house. More control, IMO.
Now, if I’m mobile I have a messenger bag in my car with extra magazines, med kit and a few other needs. The best part is I also have a plate in it as well so I can swing it in front of my chest for protection. This also allows me access to the mags for reloads.

I do have a backpack that can take a plate and has hook and loop on the inside for attachments. It looks like a normal backpack too. I guess this would work better in conjunction with a concealable carrier under a shirt. Hmmmm.... interesting.

At least you won't need a ballistic jockstrap...that's a money saver
