You can build a perfectly functional and accurate rifle without breaking the bank.

Anderson Upper and lower receivers, with parts upper and lower parts will get you as close as possible to a USGI setup without a tax stamp and for less than $200.

I like the stock USGI or the Magpul MOE handguards - Both are inexpensive - <$50.

Then you just need:

Delta ring kit, which is $10 at Midsouth shooters supply
Barrel nut - $5
Front handguard ring - $4
Gas tube - $12
Gas block - varies
Gas block pin $1
Buffer tube (rifle or carbine)
Buffer spring (rifle or carbine)
Buffer (rifle or carbine, various weights)
Buttstock (fixed or collapsible)

Then the front and rear sights you prefer.

Do you have the tools? I will assume you have various screwdrivers, needle nose pliers and torx bits but some of the following may not be in your tool box unless you have built an AR before.

Punches
Soft hammer
Vice grips
Ziplock bag
Upper block
Barrel wrench
Torque wrench
Molly grease

Keep an eye out for sales and daily deals. I shop PSA a lot because they have good quality parts that tend to be pretty cheap. Just be aware that sometimes they get backed up and may take a longer time shipping but unless you need it immediately they make up for any delays in the price savings.

If you want to save a little money and you can wait for a blemished part to become available, they are usually great deal when in stock.

This^^^^^^

Also, Joe Bob Outfitters and Primary Arms has good sales.

Sign up for email notifications to a couple of known sites that have sales and you will know when an item you are looking for pops up.

Clyde..... the question has not been asked and I believe it’s an important one.

What do you plan to use this AR for? Recreation, bench, hunting, home defense? The answer will help in your build because, each type has several setups you can do.
