Off topic question; kayaks anybody
So we spend the last week at the lake a vrbo deal. The place we rented had al the toys you could imagine but Kaden loved kayaking. I don't know crap about them but looking now to get one for him and dad of course. But thinking for Christmas.
Anybody have one and any tips on them? Been watching and reading about them and picked a up few things but still looking for good advice.. thanks. |

We have Kaku Wahoo kayaks. Most of their stuff, including the paddle boards, have great seats. https://kakukayaks.com/collections/voodoo |
Gators here are bigger than the kayaks. Pass

To date, I have Kayak'ed only once in my life, that I can recall. ANd, believe it or not, it was in Palau. I ended up a bit more disappointed with it than I could have been.
The day before, I had made the hike up and down to "Jellyfish Lake." You have to hike a bit of distance to get to it (and hike up and down a mountain), once you land on the island. But when you get there, you can swim With the jellyfish. These particular jellyfish have evolved over time and have lost their ability to sting... or, at least hurt/cause damage when stinging. It is safe to swim with them. I still had on a full body wetsuit, nonetheless. I loved it. The next day, we were taken to a small series of islands to go Kayaking for a couple of hours. Single rider kayaks, so I was all under my own power. Of course, we were out in open water so we saw all the fish, etc. and, especially, that same species of Jellyfish you saw in Jellyfish lake but *not* evolved and had full stinging power. I was within inches of (and, roughly, at surface level with) these buggers. It was all I could do to get out of the rocky areas where they were congregating. Thankfully, the tour organizer had to cut the outing short due to a pending Thunderbumper. I was so glad to get back on the boat to go home. Not that I disliked the "Kayak" part of it, but I guess the jellyfish part traumatized me a bit. |
Thanks for the info. A comfortable seat seems like a no brainer but I would not have thought of it. Renting on the weekends isn’t so bad but they have no features.

all I know about kayaking is that the thing goes in the water, I would have to paddle it to go anywhere, and that I really don't like being out on the water very much. But I would agree with "get one with good seats!" Because you're butts gonna get wet! OH! and don't tell Kaden very much about Wake boats and tri toons

I am up for ANY father son activity but fishing I just can't do. I am not a fan of fishing for a regular hobby. |

I swore off fishing as a kid. Well, "Bottom fishing" anyway. It happened when I caught the biggest "Sea Robin" and couldn't de-hook it. Dad forced me to do so and I just kept resisting. It made noises at me. "Croooaaaak." Dad was not budging. So I waited until the fish died and then de-hooked it and threw it back into the ocean. I had to do it with gloves because the spines are a bit venomous like lion/stone fish but not as severe. I never went bottom fishing again. Maybe I'll go trolling for bluefish or Bonito or something but I won't go bottom fishing again. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:H...s_spinosus.jpg |

I think you better sign up for overtime. Kaden can have it built to custom specs. |
