hmmm..... I've talked my way out of several tickets... but running down a hit and run driver and holding him ain't one of them. I have said:
"Do you know why I've stopped you?"
"No officer, I didn't know you had to do 115 just to catch up to me". (seriously)
"Do you know why I've stopped you?"
"Yessir, you realized that I am carrying 3 dozen donuts and 2 dozen bearclaws". (really happened, I was bringing the breakfast to a work party at the phone company) I opened the boxes to show him.
"Do you know why I've stopped you?"
Yessir, You noticed my clergy tags on the back of my car and would like a blessing before you continue your day".
First one cost me a 100 dollar fine and a 400 dollar lawyer bill in 1974.
Second and third one got me verbal warnings and a smile from a trooper.
