All my carry semi firearms have the Trijicon HD's. Never had a problem with them. I did try the HD XR. It didn't work for me. They're great for distance as they "cover" less of your target and allows for more accurate shots, but I found out that for me it allowed for too much error. Since most shootings happen between 3-7 yards it's a moot point anyway. Although, I still qualify and train outwards to 25.
See if you can go to local gun store and look at the handguns with the different sights and see which one your eye catches the best.
