Welcome to the forum! As far as the "highest demand," it's hard to say as that's more a function of several things... which platforms are used the most; which ammo is "in demand" more by the govt. What is the current pricing? etc. etc. etc.
I can tell you my platforms and for what I buy and track pricing.
1) .22LR (for just general "plinking" and to train the youngsters in the family;
2) .9mm 115 Gr Luger - for pistol general practice; But I use 147 Gr HST for home/self defense (HD/SD). I put that in my EDCs.
3) .45acp 230 Gr for my 1911s.
4) 5.56 Milspec XM855 Green Tip for my AR15.
5) .308 Winchester (175 Gr) for my Precision Rifle shooting (PRS).
6) 12 Gauge Mangnum load 00-Buck (3") for my shotties for HD/SD, but also #8 Target load for practice.
I could be wrong, but I'd put the 9mm and 5.56 as the most sought after ammo, given the number of weapons in circulation today. This, followed closely by .308 Winchester.
