I think South Carolina had it right the first time. Their original state constitution prohibited "barristers" from holding any public office. They knew, from first hand experience, just how crooked lawyers were. Now our political theater is full of them. Why would any lawyer who is even half way successful, making a very good living, spend millions of dollars to get a job that only pays $150,000? Sure, the perks and kick backs are nice, but what other reason except to advance an agenda that they picked up in their liberal college education.
Makes me sick. And I have several close friends that are lawyers. I asked them why they didn't run for office. They all told me the same thing.
They did not want to ruin their reputation.
