OK, I thought maybe it was the MSH cap or spring!!

I'm with you on that! The plunger on my RO was so tight, I ended up putting a light scratch on it, even though I was as careful as possible. I still have to use a small pocket screwdriver to push the plunger in. After several times of field stripping, it's still tight.
