Teachers are the last people in the world who should be armed. They have an unfair and unrealistic work load now. To be willing and able to stop a school shooter will likely require extensive training, practice, and mindset that the teachers should not be expected to do and have. Also, the idea of throwing them a little extra money to do this task is insulting. Frankly, if my grandchildren are in danger of being shot in school, I want a well-paid and trained mercenary who will not have any moral issues with shooting anyone with a gun, including a twelve-year-old. Kind of on the lines of the Secret Service or FBI, when they protect our politicians. What we need are federally funded, trained and armed security. And, the money should not go through the local politicians and school board. Those monkeys have their fingers in enough pockets now. BTW, as an Independent, I am not a fan of the GOP, but other than raping our 2nd amendment rights, I haven't heard anything productive from the Democrats. They are just the flip side of a dirty penny.

I believe a teacher should be armed if they so choose. Why is their right to defense taken, away just because they, are around kids? Same teachers are, around the same kids in the local mall or Macdonalds. A Marine vet, a coach, engaged the latest shooter while the civilian deputies cowered outside. Nobody thinks he wouldn't have fared better had he been armed? He died trying.

There would of been less kids dead if that Vet was armed... guaranteed.

It should be an optional program I am sure there are teachers that would wilt at the sight of a gun but there are others who could defend a class or stop a mass murderer if given the chance to do so. Funny, every teacher is required to get CPR certified but they balk at othe lifesaving certifications.

I teach pistol classes, and also rifle (although not certified for rifle, but there's nothing the NRA course can add at this point). Let me do what I'm trained and prepared to do in case a disgruntled lunatic student decides to cut loose.

To make matters worse, the teacher was a reserve police officer.
So what's worse, a teacher with a ND or a reserve LEO with a ND? I'm no NRA safety instructor, but shouldn't the first thing he did was clear the pistol? Wait, it was probably a block with the brake pedal on the gas pedal. Ya, that's probably the case. |
