Default Building a new upper

So while I had a couple weeks to kill I decided to finish off my 5.56 long range/precision build. I settled on Ballistic Advantage Barrels.

Here are the other parts of the upper that I had already:

Aero Precision Black Stripped Upper
PSA upper parts
PSA Nickel Boron BCG
AO Charging Handle
Aero Precision 15” Quantum Keymod handguard
Aero Precision Rifle SS Gas tube

Decided on this barrel
https://www.ballisticadvantage.com/2...um-barrel.html

Ordered with a BA .750 Gas Block.

When the barrel arrived I only had time for some pics and a mock up. Barrel was very well packed as expected. Rubber covers on both ends, inside lubed sealed thick plastic, wrapped in bubble wrap taped closed, packed with lots of packing material in a good quality oversized box. No chance of this barrel getting loose and punching through the box during shipment. I took pics, barrel looks great. It is very well machined and lines up with the feed ramp cuts in the Aero Precision upper.

Muzzle brake from Aero Precision.

VG6 Gamma 556EX

Going on an Aero Precision lower with a LaRue MBT 2 stage trigger.

I hope to get to break it in and find out what it can do soon. All this lock down is getting boring without range time.

Nice looking upper and great choice on the barrel. Waiting on RR.

Very nice build, keep us posted.
What scope is that you have mounted?

A rubber coated Norinco 3-9x40 I had laying around. Should do fine for break in and seeing how well it can group. I wasn’t thinking of building a new upper and between the handguard, barrel, gas block, and muzzle device I spent close to $500 that I wasn’t expecting to spend. I will need to wait a while to get a better optic but that one will do for now.

^^^ When the time comes what scope will ultimately be on this build, any idea yet?

No clue. I was trying to get something that would get the most out of 5.56, so the 20” Designated Marksman Rifle barrel is where I went. Free float it so there is nothing to throw off harmonics. Locally I have access to a 200 yard range but think there is another place I can get up to 500 yards. I am thinking the longest range for 5.56 might be 600-1000 yards? A 1000 yard shot would be awesome.

I really didn’t have a plan, just an impulse, and I jumped. So don’t give me the credit of having planned that far in advance! I have never been knowledgeable as far as optics so I will be learning as I research. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

Best bang for your buck imho is the Athlon line. Excellent scope comparable to others twice the price. It’ll get you out to 1000 easily.

On my Ruger Precision Rifle 6.5 Creedmoor I went with the ATHLON ARGOS BTR 8-34x56.
