Default Pointman designations; what are the differences?

I've seen Pointman Major and Minor and PM2 and PM7 and PM9 (the latter in 9mm, so I think I figured that out).

What do the designations represent? Is a PM2 a lesser pistol than a PM7? What about the Major and Minor? Are they simply version?

How do they differ?

Default Some Help

They do help to some extent. I'm wondering, for example, what Major and Minor might refer to. Also the numbering, being simply versions?

Then again, the Patriots I have, have on the outside of the box "Pointman Series" Patriot.

So, is a Patriot a model of the "Pointman" 1911s made by Dan Wesson? Who knows?

The patriot was the flagship at one time. There is also a Pointman A(Aussie) which is a 10mm made for the Australian shooting team. Similar to a Razorback. I have never heard of a PM 2. Yes the Patriot is a Pointman.

I think the PM2 and PM minor were one in the same and had frames from the philippines. All the other PM's; PM Major, 7, Aussi, 9, 10 had frames that looked noticeably higher quality. The PM Majors had a non standard grip that was wider front to back. I owned one in 9mm but sold it to a friend. It was a great shooter but I didn't like that hump back sight on the slide. I have a trifecta of the new PM9's now and also have a PM Aussie. I'll correct our brother , I think all the Aussie's were .45's.
