Question Shipping a fireaem

Question: Has anyone here shipped a sold firearm (rifle) to an out of state FFL holder without using your own FFL person? If so, is this a good idea, bad, does not matter...?.....

I have to ship a rifle I just sold out of state and this is my first time doing it (without going through my FFL) so, any tips or suggestions would be greatly appretiated.

Thanks,

I've never done it either but make sure the FFL you're shipping to will accept firearms from a non FFL, I see that statement in a lot of WTS gun adds so some FFL's must not want to do it.

oh and make sure you get plenty of insurance, USPS, UPS and Fed Ex are full of dumb asses and thieves.

I use my local FFL to ship to another FFL, eliminating the problem.

Be sure to enclose a copy of your driver's license with the gun so the receiving FFL will have proof of where the firearm came from. Also, be certain that you are sending it to a legit FFL. I think UPS handles firearms shippments from private individuals but they must go overnight which is EXPENSIVE! It could be cheaper to have your FFL send it via USPS even with his fees.

I believe you need to go through an FFL, unless it's going to a contiguous state.

Thank you all for your replies. I have spoken to my ffl guy and will proceed through him for the shipping. This way, I just drop it off, pay him for shipping, and wash my hands of it.
