Swapping rear sight
Im wanting to swap out the rear sight of my RIA, I know it will require a little time and work to fit it right but Im ok with that.
My question is what tool or pusher have you used and liked that was pretty easy and didnt mess up the slide too bad? Ill hopefully hit up ebay and pick up a used one as I only plan to do this one. The front is pinned and plan to use a makeshift tool as advised by cappi. Any ideas are welcome.

Ive got the full size GI with some fusion dot sights that have been confirmed to work with a little filing work. Talking to my dad I think we've come up with a set up. He's got some brass punches and a good vise, and clamps. Not worried about finish since I'm going to file some sharp edges off of sight and frame then do a self finish.

Rock Island puts a good amount of red loc-tight under all of their sights so use a heat gun on the sight be forehand.
And do not be afraid of beating the heck out of it to get it off. If the hammer you are use does not work at first, find a bigger hammer. No joke intended here.

sounds good I had read about that, worst case I just haave to send it off to have the slide cut and then Ill just have tartget sights put on. This should be interesting to say the least haha.

I used a nylon punch
(you can buy them at Brownell's ) I think there's an e-bay vendor that sells them too. They're not expensive (5-6 bucks for three) and they'll take a surprising amount of pounding hammer from left to right. as Mike said, don't be afraid to whack it you'll have to file the new sight base too. Standard GI cut (.330 x 65) is the closet fit you'll find. The dovetail cuts on the two I did, one was .308 the other was .312 the front sight is narrow tenon and that was pretty cut and dried . It fit perfect . I guess you must of seen my MacGyiver'd staking tool. You can make a staking tool out of an old mill file too One of the members on another board showed his. ..L.T.A.
