Default Off topic question; kayaks anybody

So we spend the last week at the lake a vrbo deal. The place we rented had al the toys you could imagine but Kaden loved kayaking. I don't know crap about them but looking now to get one for him and dad of course. But thinking for Christmas.

Anybody have one and any tips on them? Been watching and reading about them and picked a up few things but still looking for good advice..

thanks.

Best advice I can give for yours is to get one with a real seat!

We have Kaku Wahoo kayaks.
Most of their stuff, including the paddle boards, have great seats.

To date, I have Kayak'ed only once in my life, that I can recall. ANd, believe it or not, it was in Palau. I ended up a bit more disappointed with it than I could have been.

The day before, I had made the hike up and down to "Jellyfish Lake." You have to hike a bit of distance to get to it (and hike up and down a mountain), once you land on the island. But when you get there, you can swim With the jellyfish. These particular jellyfish have evolved over time and have lost their ability to sting... or, at least hurt/cause damage when stinging. It is safe to swim with them. I still had on a full body wetsuit, nonetheless. I loved it.

The next day, we were taken to a small series of islands to go Kayaking for a couple of hours. Single rider kayaks, so I was all under my own power. Of course, we were out in open water so we saw all the fish, etc. and, especially, that same species of Jellyfish you saw in Jellyfish lake but *not* evolved and had full stinging power. I was within inches of (and, roughly, at surface level with) these buggers. It was all I could do to get out of the rocky areas where they were congregating. Thankfully, the tour organizer had to cut the outing short due to a pending Thunderbumper. I was so glad to get back on the boat to go home.

Not that I disliked the "Kayak" part of it, but I guess the jellyfish part traumatized me a bit.

Thanks for the info. A comfortable seat seems like a no brainer but I would not have thought of it. Renting on the weekends isn’t so bad but they have no features.

The most important feature to look for is the back support.

I found this an issue, but I think its the life vest I had. Was very bulky and just not fitting properly. I think when it does come down I need to get my pfd first then find a proper one with a great seat.
