,

FWIW I'll share this with you. Two years ago I bought a 1939 Colt M1911A1 marked U.S. Army but SN was a Navy. I paid $1,100 for it. Last year I brought it to Turnbull Mfg and they estimated its condition between 60% to 65%. They didn't want to work on it because they only worked on WWI guns and older. Suggested I list it for $2,000 to $2,200.

About a month later they called me. After doing some research they learned that Colt made less than 4,000 in 1939 and they proposed we do a partnership project to see if WWII guns represented a market for them. So I provided the pistol and they provided the restoration to 100% condition. Pistol was sold for $8,500 before it was ever listed for sale. It would be interesting to know how many Colt made in 1943.

Pretty exciting for me as Turnbull is top drawer and 90 mins from my house. If anyone is ever near their facility I recommend asking for a tour. Gotta be better than visiting Buckingham Palace and seeing The Crown Jewels.
