Default New 1911, But What?

I need some help from everyone. Since we're all COTEPers, I can count on people with good taste. It's my birthday today and I really want to get myself a fantastic present in the form of a full size 1911. I just can't really find exactly what I want in a production gun. And I've been cruising the classifieds on various forums for a week now in case something else catches my eye. And why is it that when I have money to spend, there's nothing good in the classifieds, but when I'm broke I always find guns I wished I could buy? That sucks. Anyway, here's what I'm looking for:

5" 1911
10mm preferably (also consider 9mm or .38 Super)
Adjustable target rear sight
Fiber optic front sight
Flat top slide
Nothing completely stainless
Basically a "go-to" range gun. Something accurate and fun to shoot, but something that looks amazing too.

I've really been leaning heavily towards a Fusion build since I can order exactly what I want. My budget is $2000 and this will be the most I've spent on a gun, so I want to be completely sure I get what I want and that what I get is good quality. Any advice, suggestions, and comments are more than welcome.

I would look at the Fusion because like you said you can order it the way you want, but then you will have a waiting period.............

But if I was going to get a Production gun close to your Specs and Calibers, I would look at getting a Colt, and send it in and have the Mods done to it by a Reliable Pistol Smith.

I sent my Mil. Spec. Springer to Dave Severns for some Mods. and IMHO made it worth the wait and his quality can't be beat for the price..........

Just remember No Matter who you send it to for the Mods. to be done, most have a waiting list..............

Yeah, I see what you're saying. It's 6-months for a Fusion. Probably close to that for one of the top smiths to work on a Colt too.

+10 on what NamVet said. Call Dave Severns... but tell him an old Irish Priest sent ya! Or ... don't matter, he'll treat ya well.
