Default 2011 VZ Compacts Are Here

These guns just hit distributors and haven't even been added to the RIA website yet. They are the normal VZ compact models except with full rails! They are available in 9mm and 45. I just got in a 45 and sold it over the weekend. I have the 9mm on order now and it should be arriving by the end of the week.

My initial impression of the 45 version is very good. Probably one of the best examples of a RIA that I've seen. I had to look very closely to find anything of an issue. The gun looks very sharp and aggressive with the rail and gives it a monolithic look. I think the part I liked the best was actually the slip on magwell. Normally, I think they look cheesy and cheap and they have had huge gaps. This magwell fit very nicely and actually provided a better grip on the gun. Compact frames tend to feel too short for me, but the magwell actually provides more grip to the gun and makes it feel more like a full size frame.

I didn't get a chance to shoot the 45, but I plan on shooting the 9mm once it arrives. I'll be sure and post an update.

A gun is a tool, no better or no worse than any other tool: an axe, a shovel or anything. A gun is as good or as bad as the man using it. Remember that.

And shepherds we shall be, for Thee, my Lord, for Thee.
Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, that our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command.
So we shall flow a river forth to Thee, and teeming with souls shall it ever be.

When they are rubbed down real good with oil, the finish looks very nice. That one is a little dry. I won't argue that if you get one that doesn't have any problems, they are a nice gun for the money.

I don't know any other 1911 you can buy for $600 that gets you a rail, magwell, FO front sight, fully adjustable rear sight, and VZ grips.

Just got one of the 2011 VZ Compacts in 9mm yesterday. I already sold the 45 version so I ordered the 9mm next. I have to say the 9mm is top notch! Build quality is probably the highest of any RIA I've had. The fit is very tight, tighter than most guns that sell for a lot more. It's incredibly smooth to cycle also. The finish is very nice and even. The slide and frame actually match. The only thing I could knock was the pull weight on the trigger. It was a lot heavier than other Rocks I've had. I didn't put a gauge to it, but I'm guessing it's pushing 5 lbs. Hopefully that will lighten up with use. I have to say out of the 2 2011 Compacts, both have been impressive and I would recommend them to anyone.
