Default 1942 firearms training photo

"August 1942. "training in marksmanship helps girls at Roosevelt High School in Los Angeles develop into responsible women. Part of Victory Corps activities there, rifle practice encourages girls to be accurate in handling firearms. Practicing on the rifle range in the school's basement." Large format acetate negative by Alfred Palmer for the Office of War Information."

Bonus points if you can name the rifle. I have no clue.

Prepare to be impressed. Rifle is a Springfield M1922 training rifle in .22 as stated. Great collectors rifles. I have fired that gun, my FIL owns one. Beautiful gun. Only seen him shoot it once when he let me shoot it. Another guy at the gun range that day 4-5 years ago offered him 1000$. FIL laughed at him. Don't know what it's worth but its a neat gun.

A gun is a tool, no better or no worse than any other tool: an axe, a shovel or anything. A gun is as good or as bad as the man using it. Remember that.

And shepherds we shall be, for Thee, my Lord, for Thee.
Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, that our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command.
So we shall flow a river forth to Thee, and teeming with souls shall it ever be.
In nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti.

I got my NRA Marksmanship badge at YMCA day camp when I was a kid. Lost it years ago, wish I still had it. Bet they don't do that any more but really really need it.

Yep, should bring it back. Our agency does shooting camps again. Started back about two years ago. We do .22 shooting and light pistol shooting....Kids love it and make great connections with a cop. A good deal.

Our HuntSafe program is also very good. Game Wardens teach it and its really fun and kids get their huntsafe cards.

Y's are way to political now to do anything like shooting. Our day camps here ride horse and sing songs and finger paint....pfffff

Good job .

I first learned to shoot a bb/pellet gun at the Columbia Park Boy's Club in San Francisco in the late 70's.
