Mr. Garthwaite was very professional and a gentleman to deal with.
So how did it shoot?

"I took the Gold Cup to the range this morning and am very pleased with it. I had been a bit concerned when it wouldn’t cycle a hollow point into the chamber at home. However, at the range, it had no problem with Winchester White box FMJ and JHP, Federal Personal Defense JHP and Remington HD JHP, all in 230 grain. In close to 200 rounds, there were no failure to feed or other malfunctions. I think that it is a keeper."

It is a "range gun." I am very happy with it. It continues to place the bullets in the general direction I am pointing it. Thanks for asking.

Thanks guys! I appreciate the kudo's and really like the gun. I am somewhat surprised at the response now to a posting originally from last August, but a compliment is a compliment. Jim Garthwaite is a Master Pistolsmith and I love his work.

The pictures are off the Gun Broker page. No more 1911s for this year.

Best wishes.
That Colt is Beautiful...Great Find......But please shoot it and enjoy it...you can "crown it Later" and put into the "Tower" where it it wait for the next walk in the park
I Love Colts even if they are Cowboy Guns, but yours is a Special 1911..... Hay, you could join us for "Wild Bunch" in the Cowboy section.
You can finish your project with a "Special set of Grips" from
www.handmadegrips.com they did the grips for my Colt 45 (See Wheel Gun section)

Anyway just enjoy!

Thanks Gary,

That Colt Project is "finished" with a beautiful set of Ironwood Grips from Our Own dsparkie. I have finished a Colt Commander and a Fusion Longslide in 10mm since. I did look at the website and they are nice looking grips.

Best wishes,

You could do a lot worse than a "gct" in stainless. I like mine. Best wishes.
