Hi family,

Just wanted to put this out there that my eldest son Brandon, leaves the MEPS station on Tuesday for basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO aka "Ft. Lost in the woods".

After 10 weeks of basic, he'll go off to Ft. Huachuca, Az for AIT where he will train to be a 35F, Military Intelligence Personnel. Isn't military intelligence an oxymoron?

All jokes aside, I'm kinda glad that he didn't pick combat arms like I was and that I hope he does his 4 yrs stateside.

His plan is to do his 4 yrs and then return to college.

We had a long talk tonight about keeping his nose clean, to do the right thing - but not be a kiss ass either and above all else, never be the one responsible for getting the entire platoon in trouble.

I also challenged him that once he gets out of AIT, to make rank faster than I did. I made E-5 in less than 4 yrs and E-6 in less than 6 yrs. I hope he does it or at least comes close.

His mama and I ask that you keep him in your thoughts and prayers, especially now that a fairy is charge of the Army. Don't get me started on that.

Thank you and God Bless.

Prayer sent. Best wishes for a productive military experience. As a former Bootstrapper, I would advise your son, that after he settles in at his first PCS to get intimately familiar with the base education office. Also, take any military courses offered; as most carry college credit now. As an active duty service member, he can also CLEP for free.

Obama seems to like infusing the military management (I do not say "leadership") with homosexuals. The Chief of Staff of the Air Force is also cheerful. Next thing they will be putting bidets in the latrines. (But, probably only for E7's and above.)

Done!
All of us that have been in the military, and a few that haven't, know that you get out of it what you put it into it and can use the enlistment for great things. It all the depends on the proper mindset and guidance, which he obviously has thanks to you.
He'll be fine and do well.

Thanks everyone. I belong to other forums, but only shared this info with with you guys, as I trust each and every one of you, even though we've never met.

Brandon will be fine, he comes from a long line of servicemen; both his grandfathers, his mom & I and at least one uncle. At least in my mind I was a fine soldier :D

I will keep everyone updated on his progress from boot camp to AIT to first duty station.

Thanks again family,

God bless.

My dad's last words to me as I got on the train for the New Haven CT AAFES station..... "Do NOT volunteer. Ever." His take on it was that if you did volunteer, you would be seen as a kiss ass, or that the job would be terrible. I pretty much followed his advice, with one exception. I volunteered for a "Mobility Team"... which put me in the back of a C-130 with an M16 between my legs in November, 1979 (Tehran hostage crisis if you remember). We didn't have to go, but I was a short timer.... was getting out on terminal leave December 15th. But I'm glad I ignored his advice. I got to shoot almost every small arm in the US and USSR inventory!

Keep your head down, your mag full and pray daily. Your soul belongs to God, but your ass belongs to the military.
