Not that it would be possible but I always thought it would be interesting to find out the 'story' behind this rifle.
Who owned it and whatever became of them.
Why it was left there .... unloaded, etc. - etc.

I'm sure they checked with Winchester.

I'm sure it was probably leaned against the tree while stopping for whatever reason and forgotten. I would imagine it would be near impossible to determine which tree you left it by if you went back for it.
