My new Sig 1911 Carry is apparently in the LGS one day early. I'm pretty excited. :toast:

Will go fetch her later this afternoon and hope to have some pics tonight.

First time I can get on the range is Saturday. I've got a couple hundred 230gr JHP loaded up and I'll buy some range ammo as well.

I picked up the Sig this afternoon.

It was actually a funny deal. They gave me a Sig box, I opened it, and the first thing I saw was a DA trigger. I said "Oh ****, this isn't what I ordered".

They took a look and said, "Yeah, it's yours, it's a Sig."

After a couple of disappointing minutes of screwing around, they figured out it was someone else's gun and brought out mine.

First impressions: very tight and good looking. Everything seems to work just fine.

Grips are really nice. It handles very well. Checkering on front and back gives a really solid feel to the grip. Night sights are easy to line up and get a picture. Racking the slide is smooth as silk.

I field stripped the thing, cleaned it up, and lubed it. It actually looked ready to shoot out of the box. After the Citadel, which has an internal bushing, this really brought me back to my military days. First time I've field stripped a standard 1911 in almost 30 years, I guess. It felt good.

So, a couple of pics. As usual, I apologize in advance for my lousy photo skillz. The blemish on the frame in the 2nd pic is me removing the serial #.

I'll be taking it out to the range Saturday. I've got 150 range rounds and 200 hand loaded 230gr JHP. I'll let you know how it works out.

I've gotta say, so far, I am very impressed. I'm pretty new to the 1911 world and I really like my Citadel CS, but the Sig is on another level entirely.

Patience, Colonel!

You'll get 'em. Just no time to get the thing stripped and cleaned and out to the range today.

It looks and feels good, now I want to know if it shoots straight. Or at least as straight as I can.

Normally I have to pick up my 15 y/o daughter after school, but yesterday my wife was in Chicago, and my girl was spending the night with a friend so I was free!

After work took the Sig on down to the range. This is a 30' backstop and it's dark. My old eyes have trouble at this range.

I brought along a box of PMC range ammo, two boxes of Winchester range ammo, and 100 rounds of hand loads, 50 Berry's 200gr plated HP, and 50 Sierra 230gr JHP.

Started with PMC, loaded a single round, and bang. Loaded two rounds and bang. Loaded five rounds in the mag and all was fine.

As I said, my eyes are a bit rough these days and it's dark in there, but the Sig appears to shoot a couple inches low.

Further firing of PMC results in one FTF.

The Winchester rounds all went bang.

All my hand loads went bang. This was my first time shooting Berry's bullets, and for target rounds, I can find no fault without a lot more shooting.

Observations:

The Sig is a pleasure to hold and to fire. I did not shoot my Citadel CS Officer's Model yesterday, but I think the perceived recoil is a bit heavier in the Sig Commander sized pistol. I have no explanation. They are both steel throughout and the Sig weighs more.

The Sig shoots a little low. In the picture below, the first couple of rounds are the low ones. Once I started compensating a bit, the results were pretty good.

Interesting about the PMC ammo. My friend at the LGS says everybody loves them and he's heard no complaints, except mine. My Citadel also doesn't like them - even worse. I think my daughter and I had 5 FTF in two boxes of the stuff. It was good at the time since I was able to teach her how to deal with a FTF and a misfire. She's 15 and has been shooting my P7M8 for several years. That pistol never has a problem.

The Sig came with highly polished feed ramps on the frame and barrel.

It's really very tight. And it's a beautiful weapon.

I have no experience with sights. If this thing keeps shooting low, what would you suggest, suck it up and deal with it or somehow get it fixed?

After I get a couple thousand rounds through it I'll report back. If it keeps shooting like this, I suspect I'll say it's priced like a production, but feels like a low end custom. I got it for $950, with a discount for being military, but Bud's sells them for about $850 shipped to you FFL. I like supporting local businesses and am willing to pay a bit more to do so.

I put the wrong date on the target below. Guess it's not just my eyes getting old.
