I need some help from everyone. Since we're all COTEPers, I can count on people with good taste. It's my birthday today and I really want to get myself a fantastic present in the form of a full size 1911. I just can't really find exactly what I want in a production gun. And I've been cruising the classifieds on various forums for a week now in case something else catches my eye. And why is it that when I have money to spend, there's nothing good in the classifieds, but when I'm broke I always find guns I wished I could buy? That sucks. Anyway, here's what I'm looking for:

5" 1911
10mm preferably (also consider 9mm or .38 Super)
Adjustable target rear sight
Fiber optic front sight
Flat top slide
Nothing completely stainless
Basically a "go-to" range gun. Something accurate and fun to shoot, but something that looks amazing too.

I've really been leaning heavily towards a Fusion build since I can order exactly what I want. My budget is $2000 and this will be the most I've spent on a gun, so I want to be completely sure I get what I want and that what I get is good quality. Any advice, suggestions, and comments are more than welcome.

I would look at the Fusion because like you said you can order it the way you want, but then you will have a waiting period.............

But if I was going to get a Production gun close to your Specs and Calibers, I would look at getting a Colt, and send it in and have the Mods done to it by a Reliable Pistol Smith.

I sent my Mil. Spec. Springer to Dave Severns for some Mods. and IMHO made it worth the wait and his quality can't be beat for the price..........

Just remember No Matter who you send it to for the Mods. to be done, most have a waiting list..............

Yeah, I see what you're saying. It's 6-months for a Fusion. Probably close to that for one of the top smiths to work on a Colt too.

Not a lot of 10mm target models under $2k over there.

I would also recommend the Fusion. I have a 10 mm Longslide that I am happy with. http://www.cotep.org/forum/picture.php?albumid=51&pictureid=427

Okay, I've given up on the idea of ordering a custom gun. I just don't have the patience to wait that long. I need a new gun, and I need one NOW!

But it's seriously frustrating that any time I have coin to buy a new gun, forum classifieds are a barren wasteland for me. Oh but there's always a half dozen guns on my wish list when I'm broke.

I did find one of the new PM-9s on GB that has probably the nicest factory grips I've ever seen. The problem is the gun has the huge Dan Wesson script printed on the left of the slide. Bummer...

the Gaurdian is a far better pistol than the pm9 in just aobut every aspect.

Not what I'm looking for though. I have more than enough bobbed commanders. I need a full size gun with target sights.

Olympus

Not really a fan of RIA. I'm looking for something particularly nice and don't mind paying for it. I just don't want to have to wait forever.

I know I can find something on GB, but just have trouble swallowing the ridiculous prices there.

Yes, the 210 is a thing a beauty.

I'm really focusing on another 1911, calibers 9,10, and .38 Super specifically.

Bob, I was thinking the very same thing!! A lot of people do not like Armscor/RIA as they are not made in the US, but then again most are not!!:)

All I can say is that all of mine have been fantastic, no problems at all and if I was to have a problem then the lifetime warranty would take over!!

I do not know what to tell you on a manufacturer Olympus but I am sure that whoever you do go with will be a great choice!!

Here is my RIA Tactical chambered in 9MM!!

As far as a 10MM, RIA will have one out in January. Mine is already on order!!!:D

I owned a Citadel a couple years ago that was a dog. The front sight fell out after the first trip to the range. And I've never cared for parkerizing as a finish. That's what keeps me from buying a Springer RO.

I will be anxious to see what their 10mm model looks like though. I'd be willing to overlook the park finish for a 10mm. I can always send the gun in for Hard Hat.

Well I couldn't find what I wanted in a 1911 so I ended up buying a new Browning T-Bolt in their new maple stock.
