Hello the camp.

It's been a while since I've posted, and I thought I should show off my Battle Rifle. I also have an AR, but wanted something that could turn cover into concealment.

Enough preamble, here are a few photos and then a bit about the rifle.

The rifle as received.

With the retractable stock.

Now for a few details. This is a PTR-91 Classic and is an American made HK-91 clone. PTR makes these on tooling purchased from an HK licensed facility which was closed down.

The PTR-91 is chambered in .308WIN/7.62x51mm NATO and uses G3 magazines. I can purchase new in wrapper/near new mags for $1.79 each (if I purchase 100 mags)

The lower that the rifle comes with is a US made version of the later Navy composite lower. I've replaced the Navy lower with a clipped and pinned steel lower and a custom wood hand grip.

So far, function has been flawless and the recoil is less than anticipated. The brass (when I can find it) is very much reloadable. Accuracy is not too bad, 2.5 to 3 inch, five shot groups at 50 yards. This is standing, unsupported. When I get a chance, I'll get out the benchrest and see what it (and I) can do at 100 yards.

I'm considering adding a paddle mag release and I plan to refinish the stock and hand guard to more closely match the hand grip.

I'll be sure to update this thread if anyone is interested.

I like it. I had to go over to GB and check them out. I'm in the market for a 308.

Nice gun.....I like the PTR lineup...have the PTR PDW .308 pistol......they recently moved to South Carolina, about 2 hours from my house. Going to their new plant in November. Their fluted chambers chew up brass but I'll be damned if the things don't eat ammo.

Just curious but is that the same as a CETME? I know CETME is a Spanish military rifle but am not sure of its relations to HK. I would love to know more as I believe my grandfather has one but I have never seen it first hand.

The only rifle round I use. I believe in the 7.62. Time to make a video.

Thanks, all of you.

Gatorade:
The German G3 is modified version of the Spanish CETME. The most visually obvious differences are the rear sight and the selector. The CETME has a more basic rear sight, which is not adjustable for windage. The windage adjustment on the CETME is in the front sight.

The selector on the CETME operates opposite to that of the G3, the trigger packs are interchangeable, but you need G3 parts for a G3 trigger pack and CETME parts for a CETME trigger pack. You will also need to keep in mind that the maekings will no longer make sense with the operation of the selector.

The markings on the steel lower on my rifle are S (from the German for safe), E (from the German for semi auto), and F (from the German for full auto). The CETME operates in the reverse order.

The G3 mags can be made to work with a CETME. There are several internal parts that are not interchangeable between the two and the had guard is not directly interchangeable.

The HK-91 is a semi auto version of the G3 and the PTR-91 is a clone of the HK-91 built on HK tooling using a combination of US made and surplus parts. While most parts are interchangeable between the G3 and the HK-91, there are a few differences. The bolt carrier of the HK-91 has been modified so that the rifle will not fire should an unmodified G3 trigger pack be installed.

On the G3, the lower (AKA the trigger housing) is held in place by a pin that goes through both the receiver and the lower. The paddle mag release of the G3 pivots on this pin. To satisfy the ATF, the HK-91 was modified to eliminate this pin and as a result the paddle mag release was also eliminated.

A shelf was added for the front of the lower to hang off of instead of pivoting on a pin. This was carried over to the PTR-91.

A surplus G3 lower can be altered so that it can be attached to an HK-91 or PTR-91 receiver. But because of the shelf, an unmodified G3 trigger pack cannot be installed.

It looks like I got a bit long wended with this post and I guess I should stop typing now.
