Whatever you did, it worked! The $$$ are in my checking acount! Well, most of it (already did my Amazon Spree :D). Now, I clean up all my revolving debt and after that, it's on to Gunbroker. |

Well, wish me luck. The roofing materials have arrived and are now sitting atop my old roof. Thus, sometime this week (depending on weather forecasts), a crew will arrive to install the new roof. I hope it's Wed/Thr (08/10 - 08/11) as the chances for PM Thunderbumpers are far less those two days (23-24% respectively) than Mon./Tue (45-55%). I"ll keep ya posted. |
Did they show up?
|
Quote:
Heh.... Are you kiddin'? Now, it's Saturday 08/13. We'll see. 36% chance of PM Thunderbumpers, so hopefully it will be done quickly and not in two days. |
Figures. Good luck.

Now set for Tues 08/16. I'll know they're coming the next day when I see them drop a dumpster on my driveway. |

Crew arrived on Tues. and completed the project in 1 day! They did a fantastic job! It looks great! HVAC installer coming on Mon. 08/22. |
Getting a crown put in on the 22nd…. Looks like you got the better deal on Monday.

Although of the two I have one was old school and my second was new tech. Was 3D printed same day...very cool. |

Yeah, tech has come a long way. Still sucks tho, not looking forward to it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

It's not that bad. I have several. Then again, my father was a dentist. I was just the rebellious child that had the nastiest mouth! :D Just make sure they use good anesthesia. HVAC installed, today. Working very nicely! |
Woohoo! Nice.

Believe it or not, I have an "AR" update. Thinking that certain "Alphabet" Agency that looks after "Firearms" was going to force retailers to make parts kits "serialized," (and thus require FFL background checks), I decided to get some orders in. Got everything in without any issues. I also snagged a couple of Anderson lowers for like $47.95. I have enough parts now to build up to four(4) ARs.
Stay tuned! |
Only 4? [emoji23]

It's gonna be all I can do to keep three of those properly secured. If, at some point, I go ahead and enclose my sun porch to get more climate controlled square footage, then I'll consider a full sized safe. We'll see. |
Went on an Ammo run this morning. I found during my weekly check that some prices were coming down.
I was able to score the following: 1) BULLETS 1ST: .308 WIN 175 GR SIERRA MATCH KING - 400 CT $376.00 per 400 rnds 2) CCI Standard Velocity Ammunition 22 Long Rifle 40 Grain Lead Round $65 per 1000 rounds. 3) 9MM 147GR Federal Premium Tactical HST JHP $159.80 for 200 rounds (didn't need so much of that as it's only for actual HD/SD and I have a ton of 9mm 115 luger for practice. 4) Federal American Eagle Ammunition - 45 Auto - 230 Grain Full Metal Jacket - 100 Rounds - Brass Case 7 cases for $342.65/ That should hold me for a bit. All that remains now is cleaning up on some parts for the ARs that were "out of stock," including: 1) Armalite "Triangular" HG Caps. caleb We may have to pick a different cap as I can't find these anywhere, now. Hopefully, not permanently discontinued. 2) Magpul MOE Carbine Stock. I can get those one the Magpul website itself, but for $7.00 more than my regular supplier. If I get desperate, then perhaps, but I can wait. All is well here. I have Jury duty Voir dire in another 2 week but, we'll see. |
Quote:
All the ammo orders above have been shipped. One is still in transit (expected Fri), but the others already received. Those three that I received shipped in one day! Also, the above two parts items that were missing have been ordered and shipped. I ordered the stocks from Magpul directly, (and therefore had to pay full price for them, but...). They should also be arriving shortly. Having done my weekly price check on ammo this morning, I saw AE .45acp 230 grain was down to .43 per round for a 1000 round box. I got one. Hopefully, they haven't implemented the MCC ammo code yet! Might be the last batch I can get before that happens! :( |

All inventory now received. Now, we'll wait and see what happens with those MCC codes. Special thanks to: 1) US Armorment - 1 day shipping and had inventory in stock. Shipped from Bensalem, PA. 2) Bone Frog Gun club - 1 day shipping - for my Federal 9mm 147Gr HST. 3) Miwall Corp. - 700 rnds, .45acp - 3 day shipping. 4) Exammo - .22LR 1000 Rnds same day shipping Excellent Experience with all. 3) |
Glad you received all your orders! You should be set for a little while.

Everybody stay safe. Looks like we'll certainly get sideswiped by Ian if not a direct hit. I'll check back in on Friday.

We're inside the cone, although it should be downgraded to a tropical storm by the time it gets this far north.

I have been watching this. Looks like it could be a ugly one....

It all depends on where it crosses the coast line. It seems to be crossing a tad south of us so, hoepfully, another sideswipe. We'll have to see. |
I'm walkin through the woods to Artemis's place

Perhaps, even a bit longer as I now have the parts for two new desktop towers as well. I'll be doing those next. These will be the first two "Linux/Ubuntu" machines. One will act as a domain controller, like my Windows Server 2003 machine. I also have all the components I need for my generator and will work with my electrician to get them installed. I may also get the HVAC guy to install a "slow starter" device into the compressor to keep the surge down to a minimum. Once I get those done, I'll get back to the ARs. But, thankfully, all the main household projects are done, save for the generator and related items. |
Update: My electrician wants like $3000.00 to install the generator transfer switch for my main panel as well as the outside input connector. I'm not going to be able to afford that until well into next year.
For now, if I need the generator, I'll just use it "Standalone." That is, it comes with the equivalent of a 20 amp "quad box" on the unit itself. I can easily plug in my frig, and my quad box that handles all my computer gear. There's also a 30 amp 120/240 outlet and the 50 amp 120/240 outlet which I would feed into the transfer switch via the inlet box if it were mounted/installed. I don't know why it costs so much. I can't believe it's installing the outside connector and snaking that in to the transfer switch, so I guess it has to be all the wiring of the individual breakers inside the main panel to the transfer switch. Does it really take that long? I mean, the same electrician put in two new 20 amp quad box circuits off the main panel and also mounted my PTZ camera near the garage entry (high on the roof) for about $1000.00 less. I'm wondering if part of it is dealing with liability issues if something goes wrong with the main panel. We'll see. I also have to work with my HVAC guy to get one of those "slow starter" devices installed on the compressor. My generator could handle the "run time" load, but might have issues when starting. But that's something independent. I won't need that for a bit. Hopefully, all this household stuff will end soon and I can get back to my ARs. I've got 3 sets of parts waiting for installation. But I do have to get some stuff cleaned up and thrown out to create more room for me to work in the garage. Anyway, hope everybody is doing well. Be sure to go vote. I did today. |
Update: After 14 years and a move from the PRNJ to FL in between, my large 55" LED TV decided it had enough of national politics and gave up the ghost. :( It served me well, so it was time to let it go.
I was able to snag an Amazon deal for a Sony X90K 4K 65" Bravia TV (under $1K). The image is astounding. So, hopefully, I won't have to do that again for a long time, if ever again. It made a nice birthday present. Anyway, hope all are doing OK and that Nicole didn't cause too many issues. I'll catch up a little later to my "building." |
Our big screen TV hardly ever gets turned on anymore.
We have a projector that can throw a 120" picture on the wall (we usually watch it with a 100" picture). And we have surround sound with BIG main speakers and subwoofer driven by a Kenwood receiver that can shake the walls. It's just like being at the theater. |
Quote:
Unfortunately, my house is too small to accommodate such a projection. I'm just getting used to the larger screen myself. The new unit just barely fits in the old space. And I'm going to have to set the legs up on a couple of boxes to get it at the right height (it's too low). But it is way brighter than I've ever seen. And the 4K part of it is so much more crisp that you can definitely tell the difference in a "less than 4K" image. It gets a little blurry when I'm watching cable news channels. I have found that Blu-Ray content recorded at true 4K actually shows that way. I will save my "1st official content viewing" for this weekend... Top Gun Maverick Blu-Ray! Just got it!. I'll file an AAR afterwards. |

We watched Maverick last night at my sister's house. We saw it at the theater too!

As promised, the "Top Gun Maverick" AAR. The TV functioned extremely well. I don't think it was all shot in 4K (at least for the Blu-Ray), but the sound quality was fantastic. Loved the movie. At least they kept the Top Gun 1 flashbacks to a minimum, and updated the other "references" to today's time (i.e. Buzzing the tower, etc.). And a very interesting story regarding Maverick and Goose's son. For those who haven't yet seen it, I won't give things away. But I will make one or two "cast" comments. I totally understand why (much to the disappointment of Kelly McGillis) they did not re-cast her as "Charlie" but opted to go with the character of Penny Benjamin (Jennifer Connelly) as Maverick's love interest. I would have wanted to see one other character from Top Gun I make a cameo, along with Val Kilmer as Ice. That would be Tom Skeritt as Viper, but retired, just for them to have a quick chat and for Maverick to get some more "advice." Anyway a great story... kept me on the edge of my seat. I ended up wanting more, but i"m not sure if they'd be able to do a Top Gun III and complete the trilogy. For one thing, I would want and expect Maverick to have obtained at least 1-2 stars by that time and be put in some "Admin" role, since I doubt he could still fly after all this time. I was kinda half expecting it at the end of this movie (to get at least one star), but that just wouldn't be Maverick. Sort of like James T Kirk during the Star Trek Movie series. He was never meant to be an "Admiral." He functioned best as a Captain and commander of a fleet vessel. Same with Maverick. I can't see him ever behind a desk with stars. he was meant to be a pilot. I think they'd have to suspend quite a bit of dis-belief to get Maverick back into a cockpit from that Admiralty desk. Maybe it's better for the franchise to end with this one. Still, I want another one. Maybe Top Gun III is about somebody like Goose's son being the leader with Maverick as the Commander that has to go back to show them to do it. A little far fetched, but... Loved the movie and loved the TV set. |
One premise that I really enjoyed and hit home with me is being looked as the "old man." A "has been" that can only teach but not do. He proved them wrong as I had to do many times in my tail end of my career.

And Maverick was absolutely right about being a "teacher" vs. a "do'er." They are two different and distinct skills. A good teacher must not only be able to do whatever is being taught, but also to motivate the student to learn it... to appreciate what is being taught... to communicate it in a way the student will understand as easily as possible. The joy in teaching comes in knowing you were able to motivate the student to learn... and that they did learn. Maverick enjoyed "doing" it... not "teaching" it. |
Update - I've been ordering some addl parts for my ARs, if for nothing else than demonstrating which merchants are using those updated MCC codes. Nothing serialized at this point that would have to go to my FFL. I already have enough of those (3 in waiting). These are just general parts. So far. no CC issues encountered.
But, wouldn't ya know, the one thing I needed is out of stock and that is the rotating opening pins for the upper/lower. One came in yesterday and I scored it. I need two more so I'll have to wait, but I'm hopeful to start build #2 sometime in 1st Qtr, 2023. "Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!" Regards, Arnold |
Happy New Year, all! And thank you for all the information I've received in getting my 1st AR built, among all those other things.
With this post, I'll be closing out this thread. When I get ready to start the builds of my other units, I'll open a new one. I got a lot done this year and not just "inventory" acquisitions. New roof, new HVAC and a portable generator. Fantastic. Everyone have a safe and prosperous 2023! And I hope to see you all active on here. :flagwave: |
Happy new year all!
can't wait to see where it goes from here! |
