The serial number is on the butt. You may have to remove the grips to see it. The other numbers on the frame and under the stocks, are factory assembly numbers and have no meaning after leaving the factory. The model 19 was referred to as a Combat Magnum previous to S&W adopting the Model number system in 1957 The dash number as in 19-6 etc refers to various changes made during the times the gun was produced. The link in the post above will give you a great deal of information including when and what the dash changes mean. |
Thanks Iggy, that Thread showed me my S&W Model 19 was made in 1980.

Oh, a six-inch. Most 19s you see are either fours or sixes. that's a nice one Clyde.

That's a dandy
I see it has the speed loader cut out Target grips.
Also has target hammer and trigger and red inlet front sight. I'm betting the rear sight is outlined white. You got a dandy. I have a similar one. Mine has standard sights, trigger and hammer. http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p...g?t=1303179340 |

Less than a month ago, I put Ahrends Retro Combat grips on my Smiths and am very happy with their fit to my medium sized hand and their appearance.
I definitely notice the increased recoil with them on my 629 versus the Hogue rubber grips it wore before, but it's well worth it. One of these days, I'll take some photos of them. Grizz |
