I didn't grow up in a weapon friendly home so my first weapon I fired was an M16 in boot camp. The first one I owned and still have and will never get rid of it is a Colt 1911 Series 70.

I grew up in an anti gun family, i'm not really sure why they even talk to me, i'm the lone right winger in a family of screaming lefties. I think I might have been adopted. I was at work one Friday back in the early 80s (Florida at the time) when a co worker says, i'm going to a gun show this weekend, want me to pick something up for you? So I handed him some money, sure, what ever looks good to you...I had no clue what to ask for. Monday morning he hands me a box, it's a Taurus .38 special snubbie, I still have it, some day it'll belong to one of my kids. They have all shot it, and most of the other guns I have collected over the years. I always try to make sure there is at least some stray brass scattered around the back porch when the family comes to visit.:D

My first fire arm was and still is a 1953 Winchester mod.94 30-30. I bought it off a coworker for $150 around 9 years ago. He did not know how old it was untill I looked it up, he then found out it had belonged to his great grandfather! He never asked for it back, and it is still my deer rifle today! It has a period Lyman peep sight too.

My first gun was a Steven's .22 Favorite. Bought by an uncle for $3.50 in 1915.
A box of LR's cost $.50 and I shot and sold jack rabbits for $.50 apiece. Used the money to buy gas at $.25 a gallon to drive to meet the school bus during high school and beer in college. When the Nylon Remington 66 came out, I upgraded. I've still got the Favorite and gave the 66 to my son years ago. |
