Everybody stay safe. Looks like we'll certainly get sideswiped by Ian if not a direct hit. I'll check back in on Friday.

We're inside the cone, although it should be downgraded to a tropical storm by the time it gets this far north.

I have been watching this. Looks like it could be a ugly one....

It all depends on where it crosses the coast line. It seems to be crossing a tad south of us so, hoepfully, another sideswipe. We'll have to see.

Perhaps, even a bit longer as I now have the parts for two new desktop towers as well. I'll be doing those next. These will be the first two "Linux/Ubuntu" machines. One will act as a domain controller, like my Windows Server 2003 machine.

I also have all the components I need for my generator and will work with my electrician to get them installed. I may also get the HVAC guy to install a "slow starter" device into the compressor to keep the surge down to a minimum.

Once I get those done, I'll get back to the ARs. But, thankfully, all the main household projects are done, save for the generator and related items.

Update: My electrician wants like $3000.00 to install the generator transfer switch for my main panel as well as the outside input connector. I'm not going to be able to afford that until well into next year.

For now, if I need the generator, I'll just use it "Standalone." That is, it comes with the equivalent of a 20 amp "quad box" on the unit itself. I can easily plug in my frig, and my quad box that handles all my computer gear. There's also a 30 amp 120/240 outlet and the 50 amp 120/240 outlet which I would feed into the transfer switch via the inlet box if it were mounted/installed.

I don't know why it costs so much. I can't believe it's installing the outside connector and snaking that in to the transfer switch, so I guess it has to be all the wiring of the individual breakers inside the main panel to the transfer switch. Does it really take that long? I mean, the same electrician put in two new 20 amp quad box circuits off the main panel and also mounted my PTZ camera near the garage entry (high on the roof) for about $1000.00 less. I'm wondering if part of it is dealing with liability issues if something goes wrong with the main panel. We'll see.

I also have to work with my HVAC guy to get one of those "slow starter" devices installed on the compressor. My generator could handle the "run time" load, but might have issues when starting. But that's something independent. I won't need that for a bit.

Hopefully, all this household stuff will end soon and I can get back to my ARs. I've got 3 sets of parts waiting for installation. But I do have to get some stuff cleaned up and thrown out to create more room for me to work in the garage.

Anyway, hope everybody is doing well. Be sure to go vote. I did today.

Update: After 14 years and a move from the PRNJ to FL in between, my large 55" LED TV decided it had enough of national politics and gave up the ghost. :( It served me well, so it was time to let it go.

I was able to snag an Amazon deal for a Sony X90K 4K 65" Bravia TV (under $1K). The image is astounding. So, hopefully, I won't have to do that again for a long time, if ever again. It made a nice birthday present.

Anyway, hope all are doing OK and that Nicole didn't cause too many issues.

I'll catch up a little later to my "building."
