Any HI-Powers here ?
No Hi-Powers here ?
I would like to see some and discussion on the same . I have 2 FM clones and and love 'em both . |
I own two. An actual Browning and a clone.
|
I would, except I can't seem to find one in 45 :D

I had a Browning Hi Power from Novak. It is Number 11 of their 1-100 series. I gave it to my son for his home protection. It looks similar to this one from Novak, except the grips are Craig Speigel and the match barrel is from a different maker.

If you can find a 40 it's only a little under weight . :0)

A few interesting facts about the High Power...
JMB developed the High Power per the French Military specifications, and had to work around the patents for the 1911, since he had sold those rights to Colt. So basically it was a clean sheet design while Browning was involved. The name High-Power came from the French name for it, which referred to the 13 round magazine, not the power of the cartridge itself. Seems it lost something in the translation One of the early prototypes was striker fired with a 16 round magazine. (guess that was way ahead of its time though) Another early prototype was a blowback design. Browning died in 1926, and the 1911 patents expired in 1928. Although JMB himself could not incorporate any 1911 features, Dieudonné Saive of Fabrique Nationale in Belgium picked up the development and reworked the design to incorporate 1911 features. France rejected the High Power in favor of a similar, but cheaper single stack pistol ("Model 1935"), and the High Power was adopted by Belgium instead (and 50 other countries as well) |

The Novak Hi-Power started life as an FN with the SafetyFastShooting system. Hated that so off to Wayne it went. Only thing left original is the slide and the frame! :D I have another FN HiPower that I rebuilt myself, and a Browning that belongs to wifey. |
Got one of these:
It's the FN built competition Hi Power "GP" built in the late '80s. http://i46.tinypic.com/29pfbcn.jpg |

Very nice shooter . Would love to have one .nanner
|
I would also like to hear from guys with them.
Sounds like everyone wants to fix hammer bite, trigger job and magazine hammer block. Any info, quality on new ones. Never understood why somebody besides browning didn't make them, like DW, Kimber, and so on. |

I have a semi-clone Hi-Power from Hungary. It looks the same, but has zero parts interchange.
I suspect some of the reason for the dearth of clones is its complexity. There are just too many good designs out there which are easier to copy. |

Also on how to disassemble the pistol . Not real difficult but you do need to do it right . If you are not confident in doing this then don't do it . The mag drops clear now and does help with the trigger pull a bit . Less creep. I personaly have never had any hammer bite on the one pistol that has a spur hammer . You can't limp wrest it or you could get bit . My wife has been bite . Though both of mine are good shooters I do not ike the sights but have not change them out . I think the prices of the orig. Hi-Powers are way of line but I would gladly pay it for the Browning if I could afford it . I love them .They are the most comfortable pistol I have ever held . |
Here are mine :) And yeah, I did the stippling and other mods :)

Very nice thread with pics guys.
I've owned many over the years, preferring the ring hammer models over spurs. None in the fold presently. |
I don't own one yet but I did shoot that GP competition model and really like it.

If anyone is interested, Aim Surplus just posted Israeli Police trade ins for about $450 - $500, depending on condition.

I know this is an old thread, but I'm new here. My BHP Standard 9 MM is my EDC. I have another of the same as a safe queen. I switched from my Colt Model 70 SS as my EDC because I decided this world is crazy enough to where I might need the extra fire power. I love John Browning's pistols (well, the BHP isn't totally Browning).;)

Since pickwick reupped this thread, I checked AIM Surplus. They have FN Belgium Hi Powers for $450.
http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=F1FNHP I wonder if that's a good buy, because I have always wanted the other JMB pistol. |
I too have my eye on this website now...looks like they get some interesting stuff there.

Thanks to you, I just placed an order for another one! nanner |
dang, I've always wanted one. i'm going to have to do some thinking.......
|
That is a good price . I have 2 FMs now or I would be all over this .
|
I had a Taurus 92 once upon a time. Kind of liked it. Just do not like the 9 mighty mice round
|
My order fell through, seems my ffl screwed the pooch and didn't send a copy of his license to Aim. I'm not mad though, I wasn't planning on buying another pistol. Now I can use that money elsewhere.

I got to look at 7 different hi powers yesterday. the itch is a growing.:D

I've been interested in finding a BHP for a while, and finally ran across one locally at a price I couldn't refuse. 1987 Mark II.
Shoots nice, perfectly balanced. Now I have two of JMB's finest. https://s5.postimg.cc/6gbxbvlqf/2018-06-27_17.36.36.jpg https://s5.postimg.cc/ovwe99s53/2018-06-27_17.37.04.jpg |
