New B.U.G

Bought a M&P Bodyguard .380 for a bug or light (summer ) carry in a pocket. I know, I know....it's a .380 but, it's better than the one left at home. So, I went to the range for a quick function test. Shot 100rds of fmj (50 pmc and 50 ppu) and 20 hp rounds (don't remember what brand they were, had them loose in a ziplock). Had two ftfeeds with the pmc and two failure to lock on empty mag with the pinky extension mag. All 20 hp rounds fed and fired (the pic of the target below was with the hp's). This little booger is accurate for it's intended range and I did not find it snappy. The trigger is very smooth and not too heavy. Unfortunately, the break was at the very rear of the long pull which made trigger jerkin' a challenge not to do. I'm liking this little guy so far, a few hundred more rounds and it should go into b.u.g duty. Enough talking, here is a pic or two with Mr. Girsan big daddy (which ran flawless as expected).

Good news. Quick question. I thought the S&W BG came with a laser housing on the front of the trigger guard. Was it removed on this particular pistol?

The S&W Bodyguard comes with the laser. The S&W "M&P" Bodyguard comes without the laser (I think you can get it with as well). I did not want the laser.

No such thing as +P in a 380, those rounds are over pressured. Also, this little booger is not made to handle "+P". Here is a good read..... http://shootingthebull.net/blog/why-...or-any-p-ammo/

Believe it or not, good old Fed Hydra Shoks are still a great round in the .380 cartridge. Penetration test show they make it to and just past the 12" mark and expand uniformly every time. This is my choice for now until I see something better.

I meant the cast .380 bullets. Key words you used...."good old Fed Hydra Shocks" are accurate. Those rounds are crap, and are still available when the Federal HST brand cannot be found. The .380 in a 95 grain HP is way underpowered, the cast bullet will do some damage.

Gotcha. I wish Fed made the HST in 380 but, they don't.

There is always the hype of HP ammo for .380's, but it just doesn't dig deep enough, that's why the cast rounds. But make sure what you carry cycles cause .380's can be extra finicky. I know people with Glock 42's who swear if you don't use a heavy .380 it won't cycle correctly.

Yeah I hear ya. The .380 is not my favorite at all but, I tried to stuff several single stack 9s in my pocket at the lgs and it just wasn't working for me. I will cycle plenty of rounds out of this guy before any carry duty is performed. Hopefully, I will never have to find out if my ammo choice was the correct one.

Light shorts/cargo or swim trunks will be the home for this thing. Otherwise the. 45 will be riding hip side.
