Did some shootin' today
Figured I needed some stress relief after a busy work week. So, I hit the Sheriff's range for some 100yd shooting. I took the Rem 700 and some ZQI 7.62 147g FMJ as well as some Fed GMM 168g BTHPs. The current scope riding up top is a Redfield Battlezone 3-9x42 till I get my other scope issue resolved or I get a different one. The Redfield worked great tho.
Here's the rifle and scope waiting to go Hot. Does she look familiar? :D http://i.imgur.com/p35klIE.jpg Here is the best group from the ZQI 7.62 Walmart ammo (most groups were very similar, consistent). Ignore the x'd out holes, they are over lap shots from another target placed on top of this one. http://i.imgur.com/ZWpW5Rn.jpg Once I got the barrel warm and fouled up (20 rounds or so), I switched to the Fed GMM 168g BTHP's Here are the results... http://i.imgur.com/7kYxONc.jpg http://i.imgur.com/ToakkzN.jpg http://i.imgur.com/X18uHGg.jpg http://i.imgur.com/7aEibss.jpg?1 BOOM SHAKA-LAKA!!!! http://i.imgur.com/jgkRlxh.jpg That half minute group was shot second or third as I worked my way around the target. I am stoked to see this kind of accuracy! nanner All were five shot groups at 100yds with light to 0 wind in a 90+/- deg, partly cloudy day. My shoulder felt like mush after 45-50rds so, I called it a day. Definitely need to ad a better butt pad to the stock (I know, I know.....wuss). The rifle performed flawlessly and the bolt was smooth as butta. The clarity at 9x wasn't the best but, doable. Can't wait to put better glass on this bad boy. I will be using the Redfield for my AR Precision build. Thanks for looking. All comments welcomed as usual. |
lookin good cockroach. Keep it up and you'll be a rifleman
|

Howdy Guess I am a little late to the party. Busy work schedule for me the next year or so (Political, Music, Fashion and of course Glock's) Anyway, very nice shooting (did you go to 20 mile Bend) and I think what you need is an adjustable butt pad with shock absorb. and have the stock measured, cut and the butt installed ( I have to do this with my shotguns and rifle). A very nice piece... What scope are you changing and putting on it? |

An adjustable butt pad would be great. Is that something that can be added to a plastic (for lack of a better word ) stock? As far as scopes goes, I'm looking at either the SWFA SS 10X or the Vortex Viper HS-T. Bttbbob recommended the Mueller APT 4.5-14x40 scope as a "beginners to long range " scope. It seems of great quality to $$ and can't wait to try it out. This scope came with the wrong elevation turret cap on it but, Mueller is sending me the correct one. Once I can save up for a higher quality glass, I'll upgrade. This should suffice for now. Don't get me wrong, the Redfield is nice and I'll use it one one of my ARs. |

So, I will let you know on the stock.......I have the same problem with the stock on my shotgun that I use for 3-gun. If it works, I will suggest that you do the same...If not, I will be getting a new butt stock for my shotgun. The problem is getting the pistons installed and have them stay in place, especially if the stock is hollow. As far as the scope goes, I am a big fan of the Vortex (look at optical planet for the best prices) I will get back to you in a week or so on the Butt.......... GaryR |

09-04-2016 range Day
Took the 700 out for some load testing today. I can say that this was not a good day for the shooter. The rifle did great and so did my loads. But, being under the weather and 85 degrees with no wind takes a toll real quick. I started rushing shots and it shows. Anyways, that's my excuse...LOL..
Temp- 85* Hum- 80% Wind- +/-3mph 9'0clock Bar- 30.10 Clear skies Range-200yds Rifle- Rem 700 Milspec .308 Loads- 168gr Nosler BTHP, 4895 & Varget Powders, Fed Brass, Win Primers http://i.imgur.com/Evq2r8j.jpg All in all, not too bad. But, deffinately can be improved. I still have to test with some 4064 powder loads and see if it shoots better. It's looking like the charge will be fine tuned around 42.0 - 42.5 grains. Pic of the rifle as it sits... http://i.imgur.com/67NevDv.jpg?1 http://i.imgur.com/59IAajy.jpg?1 PS.....All shots were taken prone. |
Good job brother, both on the shooting and the reloading. Great pics too.

So what has changed from that .5 MOA group? Looks like stock, scope and ammo. Maybe too many changes to know what opened your groups like that. Looks like it is capable of great shooting but with so many changes maybe it would help to go back to the old set up and change one component at a time.
|
Just noticed those were at 200 yards instead of 100 like the .5 MOA. Double the distance could have something to do with it!
What is That rear rest? Is that a gun sock filled with something? I just did some shooting with a front rest for the first time and was happily improved. |
