Shield me from evil....

For summer I decided to get a new carry piece. The heat and humidity of S.Florida along with body sweat and oils, has worn the bluing of my current EDC.....STI Escort. It's showing a little bit of surface rust and that is not good, it'll have to be refinished. Anyway, I decided to go plastic and chose the S&W Shield 9. SO, say hello to my little friend! !!

I decided to upgrade the sights to Ameriglow night sights with orange front tridium and blacked out rear with tridium inserts. These make for an ultra fast acquisition and a nice 3 dot view in the dark.

Great little gun.

RKP 07-19-2015 10:03 PM

Congrats, anxious to hear your feedback on it.

Feathermerchant 07-19-2015 10:06 PM

It has been my favorite carry for over a year now. It fires any ammo I feed it without one hiccup.

I have been carrying my Springfield XDs 9 for the past couple of weeks as it has gotten hot and humid. I usually carry with the pinky extension but this year I am using the extended magazine with the full size grip. It may print more but I feel a lot more secure with my grip. I also am changing the slim grips on my DW Guardian to regular as I am not shooting the slims as well as I would like. This pistol in 38 Super should be more accurate than my ECO was in 9. I think the difference is my grip is not consistent as the frame is smaller diameter than any of my other 1911s. I have not had a rust problem but noticed that after several days in the holster the XDs is looking quite dry forward on the slide. The WC Spec Ops 9 with the fat double stack magazine has made me very aware of how tiny the single stack frames feel, especially the hideout guns with a nubbin to hang on to. My large hands are not a good match. I like a larger gun as at some point it may turn onto a club or a rock. :(

douglas_knott 07-20-2015 01:19 AM

Good guns. It is currently my daily carry too.

Caleb 07-20-2015 05:10 PM

I had plans on Saturday (past) to run 100rds of WWB and 50rds of Fed HST 124gr but, the darn range was packed with class students. Oh well, range report will have to wait.

First impressions: Fits great in my hands and points naturally. The trigger is blah (7-8lbs) but, breaks crisp and actually doesn't feel heavy. We'll see if I throw in an Apex kit or not. I've shot one of these before so, I know what to expect as far as recoil and repeat shots goes. I'm good with two less rounds compared to the 10rd fatties (ie: glock 26, m&p 9c, sr9c, ect...) because it is much more lighter, slimmer, and comfortable.

Love the "Caution" billboarded across the slide. "Capable of firing with the magazine removed." uuuhhhhhhhhhhh Yeah. Take the mag out, clear the chamber. Then it won't go off. What we have to write to prevent lawsuits in this country!

Congrats on the new M&P! :bananagun:

They're about the closest thing to the complete reliability of a 1911 that I've run across yet.

I have four of them, and my first (made in 07/07) still hasn't had the first malfunction. None of the rest have, either.

Tell me about it. I wonder if it would be a bad idea to scrub off said caution if one were to refinish a firearm?

Thanks. One of my favorite watches, unfortunately it stopped working and cost more to repair than replace.

M&P9c is a 12 round "fattie."

But still a fattie. :D

Carried it all day yesterday, didn't even know it was there.

Shark1007 08-06-2015 08:30 AM

Congrats, Caleb, I have one in .40 and Dawn carries one in 9mm. They are a nice little pistol indeed.

I've been involved with a new house and out there a lot with no a.c. and I got some rust on the front sight groove and on the slide lock where the blue was worn. For 300 bucks, they are a real bargain.

Glad you're giving my old girl a rest.

Caleb 08-07-2015 09:54 PM

Thanks Brother. She is in need of a new dress but, is still flawless with no malfunctions. It has been a great carry piece.

Where did you buy a house? I was wondering where you were.
