M16a1 Build
So, I have been looking to build one of these for some time now. One night in chat I was mentioning it and Alton said he had a couple kits laying around. Fast forward a month or so and he gave me a deal I could not pass. I was trying to get as close to period correct as I could without spending a mint and the following pics show how it ended up. I like it! Can't wait to shoot it this coming weekend. A lot of thanks goes out to Alton as he helped me throughout my build and he is a wealth of knowledge. The main item that is not period correct is the lower. I had an Anderson lower sitting in the safe so, I just used it for this build. Maybe, some time in the future I will pick up a repro lower that matches better. Anyways, thanks again to Alton and here are some pics (we all love pics).
This was my guide sort of speak as well. From top to bottom is an A1, A2, M4,(?). http://i.imgur.com/Av3ki1U.jpg Here is what I received from Alton. http://i.imgur.com/VbUyZri.jpg http://i.imgur.com/77ulrWo.jpg Here is the finished product after adding the proper handguards and three prong flash hide as well as a teardrop forward assist. http://i.imgur.com/hvClRAG.jpg http://i.imgur.com/uQnaRo8.jpg http://i.imgur.com/JyoW7nN.jpg http://i.imgur.com/R2sSbLc.jpg http://i.imgur.com/VUeTJWx.jpg http://i.imgur.com/iDoNjGG.jpg http://i.imgur.com/GKFesjv.jpg http://i.imgur.com/TEuyFR8.jpg |

D&H 5.56 30rd Aluminum Magazine In stock $ 6.99 |
I was at a friends house not long after I bought my AR and he asked if I had magazines. I had a few, so he proceeded to pull out a duffle bag and set it on my lap and told me to help myself. The duffle was full of surplus magazines. I took a bunch. Didn't feel too bad since the duffle had 30 or 40 and he had another full duffle right next to it. He's been collecting them for years.

Looks like a fighting gun, I like that. No crap on it, just point it and shoot. Caleb, you keep that up and we will need a weekend with bttbbob.

Nice looking rifle. Assuming it's semi auto only? Or did you already have the parts to make her run and register it?

Nifty! I tend to go through phases of interest and right now I'm all about black rifles. Enjoy the old school cool!

UPDATE: Range Report
Took the a1 to the range last Saturday for some fun. The rifle ran great, I did have two or three failures to extract tho. I believe it was due to lack of oil on the bcg. I threw some oil on that sucker and it ran flawless after that, around 130rds of Federal 55gr fmj. As far as accuracy, it's very acceptable. I was ringing a torso sized steel plate at 200yds with irons consistently. In fact, it kinda got boring....lol. So, we turned our attention to the tanerite bottles. First shot, too high. Second shot, too low. Third shot, BOOM. After I figured out my hold, those bottles had no chance, BOOM BOOM BOOM! Now, I did not take my camera but, shot a couple of pics with my phone. Check them out.
Ignore the targets, I was shooting past them at the 200yd steel torso. http://i.imgur.com/bPog8Bi.jpg http://i.imgur.com/ckyUuzd.jpg Here's my brother running a mag dry. http://i.imgur.com/Vfu2hvF.jpg From left to right. My brother's M&P .22lr, My buddy's 7" Noveski SBR, and my a1. http://i.imgur.com/V8Btmqh.jpg The sights were almost dead on for 50/200yd zero. Just had to move the rear sight one click right. All in all, it's a great rifle. Thanks again Alton. |
Great to here that it worked out well it was a tack driver the day I tested it as well...
