Thoughts on flashlight for women?
Hey guys, Happy Thanksgiving to y'all.
Would appreciate your input on this thought. Neither my wife (39:bs:) nor my 30 year old daughter carry a handgun or have one at home. I'm thinking a blinding bright flashlight that will fit comfortably in their purses can be a great self defense piece for them in the dark. If you agree can you recommend a specific light? Thanks for your time and consideration. Jim |
I have so many piss poor jokes for women's lights being on I'm just gonna stand down here...

Not sure on the light idea but I am a believer in the Kimber self defense spray. Shaped like a tiny plastic pistol, fits pockets and purses, shoots to self defense distance and comes with a practice unit and target for training. It works, I have purchased kits for my wife and the wives of friends and none of them have had to use it, so it repels evil doers. :) PS, Joe, this stuff will put your lights out for several hours, so do not give it to anyone who doesn't appreciate headlights jokes. :) Dennis

Go with the pepper spray, not the bright light. Works in the daytime too. Like a handgun, practice!!!

Dont have an issue with the flash light likr a streamlight but shoud carry some spray too though. Just a good idea

you need to get them shooting and carrying a handgun. if I were a rapist/attacker a flashlight wouldn't stop me. just my opinion.

I agree that a light is a good tool for locating a potential threat. It may also make a user more of a hard target than they're willing to tolerate.
I highly doubt it will stop someone with absolute intentions do harm a person. What's your budget? What type of batteries would be used....primary CR123s or rechargeable li-Ions? |
Fenix pd35 or similar.

I've bought several "Ultrafire" Asian knockoff flashlights from ebay. They advertise 2,000 lumens, have a strobe etc. and are blinding bright. You can get them with a single rechargeable battery and charger for about 12 bucks.
I'm a flashlight nut and I have used these guys for years without an issue. I do agree on the pepper spray, but you wanted flashlight info. http://www.ebay.com/itm/3PC-2000LM-U...0AAOSw9r1V7~2w |
Thx guys! The Fenix PD35 is the light I'm considering and here's why.

The PD35 is a great option.
Another to consider, within the same price range is the 780 lumen Foursevens QT2L-X. This one has the output level selected by loosening or tightening the head. When the head is tight, it always outputs the amount of light programmed. The turn-on brightness level can be selected, by tightening or loosening the head, while the light is turned off, so it will turn on at the desired level. Thanks to a suit from Surefire, they're discontinued, but still readily available. |

This got me thinking of getting a flashlight as a Christmas present. Doing a little research and both Nitecore and Fenix now make a series with a micro usb plug built in to charge the battery. That's pretty cool. My smart phone has a micro usb so I have a charger in all the cars.

Scum bags don't like being lit up with big light. I think it's a great deterrent. I like the kimber spray also. I like lasers too also for intimidation. But I don't recommend them to novices.
