An Avenger for Dave
I'll use this thread to document the design and build of Dave's holster. I've never done an avenger style holster, but it seems like most leather cutters have one in their lineup. So, this will be a good exercise for me... other than its another LEFTY...
Dave please add comments as we go - I'm pretty thick skinned, if its not going how you want let me know. Lane Sent from my A500 using Tapatalk |
I saw "Dave" and "Avenger" and thought of him in a Mighty Mouse mask with a towel safety pinned to his shirt:D
Sorry, couldn't "hep" it |

Lane, go here;http://forum.m1911.org/showthread.php?t=65965
I'd like, if possible, to have a 30 degree cant to the Holster. Can that be done? |

You know that it will be a good one if Lane is making it!!!:)

Protoype
OK - I've finished the prototype, and think I'm close (but, Dave gets the final say on that). Couple of things, the stitching is pretty sloppy, I was just trying to make sure it works; it's not dyed cause I didn't want to wait; I didn't use my vacuum press for molding (just lazy); and I know it's a righty - I need to make sure I've got the pattern right, then I'll flip it over.
Anyway, here's the pattern I came up with: Here's the parts cut out: Front view, with a gun and a "belt": and a back view: A couple of things I noticed - the belt slot and "tunnel" are too small for a thick belt. My carry belt is 1/4" thick, and it should fit one of my belts right? Also, I think the belt slot is too close to the edge - I need to make it just a tad wider throught that area. Anyway, take a look, Dave, and let me know what needs to be changed. Please don't be shy. Lane |
Looking good imo.

Coming along real nice Lane!!!:)

I like it!

Looks good to me lane. Besides, I never look a gift-horse in the mouth.
oh, when you make it, remember I need a sight channel, I have a .195 front sir. |

Prototype #2
OK - I think I've got it. The next one will be the "production" version. For me, it seems to take 3 tries to get a pattern the way I like it. Anyway, I lined and dyed this one and used the vacuum press to make sure everything was close - and I made it wrong handed. :D
Here it is fresh outta the press: Here's the resized belt tunnel - I got it right this time: and the back view: Dave - take a look and give me your input. I'll remember to mold in a sight channel in the final version. Lane |
Looking good Lane...

Looks great Lane, like the color too! You just gotta cut the belt loop. Did you add the extra you were talking about?

Freshly dyed
OK - we are getting close. I've got the holster and matching belt (Dave has volunteered to be a victim...er, tester for my belts..) stitched and dyed.
Here's what they look like now: And from the back. It's still a bit wet, but hopefully, he won't mind that I put my "mark" on it. :D Tomorrow night, we'll get the holster wet molded. Lane |
Where do you sign up to be a volunteer. Looks great Lane.
|
See? What'd I say Lane! Looks great, can't wait to see it molded. As for your mark, I'd expect nothing less. I'll be showing it to all my shooting friends.

It's pretty cool to see the process, thanks for posting all the pics. I have to imagine you have one seriously heavy duty sewing machine to go through that leather.
