Hillary vs Trump. What are you stocking up on?

So barring some epic ace up Bernies sleeve it looks like Hillary vs Trump. When you hear that, what is the first think that jumps into your head that you need to stock up on. XM855, AR lowers, freeze dried food, coal? Not necessarily what you think will skyrocket in price but just what you would like to have more of before you may not be able to get any.

milkmanjoe 05-04-2016 03:04 PM

No specific plans, just keeping my SC property in order in case someone needs housing

Xbonz 05-04-2016 03:29 PM

Crosses and wooden stakes...

No silver boolits?

Ammo, lots of ammo.

No fixed address is being considered....

Gatorade 05-04-2016 07:22 PM

I just ordered a FDE stripped upper and some parts for it from Aero Precision. Got a couple ponds of powder and primers on order to pick up from my local Bass Pro Shops. I would love to pick up a couple 80%s but ammo components seems to be my most likely stock up items.

Most seem to lean toward picking up more ammo and magazines, especially XM855, I wonder if this will start another panic right when it seemed like we were recovering from the last one.

I can hear CTD execs yelling to change online pricing immediately!

Riverpigusmc 05-04-2016 09:15 PM

as stated elsewhere, Preparation H

may get some powder and .22 ammo

Caleb 05-04-2016 10:31 PM

Powder, mags, boolits, and a few lowers.

AFJuvat 05-08-2016 03:29 PM

Been stocking up on ammunition and reloading components.

Mandatory to put your address here so, ya know, just in case, all yer boolits and stuff never get wasted. Key locations and lock combinations are a plus. :D

AFJuvat 05-09-2016 04:03 PM

Just had these arrive at the house today.

You know, for educational purposes. :D

22 LR. I make everything else I shoot. In the EOTWAWKI / SHTF scenario, 22LR will be the new currency. Lots of 22 rifle and pistols out there, and rimfire ammo has to be made in a factory.

Maybe a little XM855. And, as stated earlier, I'd look to buy a Sig Sauer P320 SC as EDC and my current Shield 9mm as BUG.

DrHenley 06-13-2016 10:45 AM

Primers have to be made in the factory too, Padre.

There there is powder...

I have heard in the early 1900s, you could order a rimfire reloading kit from a Montgomery Ward catalog.

Well, 100 years later, we are back to the future...you can now reload your 22 ammo:

Baking soda and water. Doesn't taste that great, but far faster than antacids. :D

I did realize immediately that someone would say that you CAN reload 22LR. Yes, it IS possible. Or should I say "Yes, it is POSSIBLE?" There have been several iterations of reloading components for 22LR, but... sad to say.... none have been truly viable, or reliable. In a SHTF scenario, having a kit that allows reloading of 22LR is certainly a good thing, as long as you have the chemicals to mix, the acetone to add, and the ability to cast your own bullets. Then... maybe you can roll your own. But... and it's a big but... will they be reliable. Those kits that have been on the market for years have been said to be "less than reliable." The attached article is an excellent read, describes the dillemma well. And so... I posit... stock up on 22LR. It's easier to buy it now, than make it later.

Do post a review, I am intrigued.

Gatorade 06-14-2016 01:37 PM

I have thought the problem with loading rimfire is the dents in the rim. Those would affect feeding, extraction and limit how many times you can reload it.

From their web site:

Quote:

If the firing pin strikes exactly on top of the dent in the rim caused by the previous strike, you may experience a misfire. Reorient the case so that the strike falls elsewhere on the rim, or follow included instructions for removing the dent from the case rims.

Drum Roll Please........ while we wait for the verdict....

and a couple of questions. did you make your own projectile? melting lead and all that.... and did you follow the instructions exactly to get the dent out of the case rim?

Patience! He said he will review after the test fire. Don't pester the wizard while working magic!

Sorry to say, the first round was a dud. So I loaded up a small batch and tested them yesterday. All duds.

I have made up another batch of primer compound and adjusted my technique. If this doesn't work, I'll be looking for some strike-anywhere matches...:o
