¡No habla español!

Whitehouse.gov has removed all Spanish language content.

No word on whether this is just temporary...

http://www.cotep.org/forum/images/icons/icon14.gif ... Good deal, should be English only, and permanent !!

I agree, this is one of only a few countries without an official language.

If someone is new to the language or in a foreign country wanting to learn more about this great shining city on the hill then this won't make it easy for them to learn more. Alternate languages on signs were a huge help for me while visiting Europe. Can't see what the purpose would be aside from being a backward step.

I do like this....I deal with people (non-Hispanic) that don't speak a lick of English and its a nightmare to communicate. Mostly eastern Europeans...don't even try. Google saves my butt usually but makes me nervous to have a group of potential law breakers talking amongst themselves and I can't understand.....scares the nutella out of me.

I do see this point, we were in Quebec Canada on vacation a few years back mostly French speak there, glad everything was in English and French....but still would rather go a little tougher on this than softer.

Lol....you guys are too funny.

I'm Cuban, all of my family obviously speaks fluent Spanish. BUT, they ALL learned ENGLISH when we came here. They may have a heavy accent but, at least they can speak and understand English. My feelings are.....if you plan to live in a different country than your birth country, then learn their language and respect their beliefs/ way of life. I shouldn't have to push "1" for English on the phone.

With that said. They should still have at least links on the main site that will take them to a different language for the basics. Then ad a link to an English language school. :D

El problemo no es los muchachos queien quiero vive aqui y solomente necisicito unpoco "help while learning".

El problemo es ellos quien tengo "no one" por practican iengles. Y ellos son pena por habla mucho.

Those people are marginalized and insulted and driven to only speaking a comfortable language.

My wife's parents are both from Cuba, one speaks perfect English with an accent, the other is very uncomfortable speaking English. Where he worked and lived it became easy to speak only Spanish. Oh he is also a US Army veteran. So he has taken an oath I never took.

I have no problem with alternate languages for those that need help.

The big question is where do you stop? Do you put English, Spanish, Arabic, Pashtu, Erdo, .....

I understand being a world citizen, and I wish Americans spoke more than one language. But the issue is for legal documents. Legally, there is no language of the United States.

Legal documents should be submitted and completed in English. No question. However translations of those documents should be made available but if the documents are obscure or archived the expense of translating should fall on the person requesting the document. However for public information and building with tourist value then there really no reason to not have languages available for many languages.
