I am scared!!
So after 5 year search my MIL finally purchased a house....one mile from mine. She is getting off the farm for a better quality of living for retirement. Kaden is really excited to have gmp and gpa so close but me....meh. I liked having a 2 hour bumper from family.
Its a good deal really but just in case I have been digging a moat and working with pig for some gators. |
Make your MIL hate ya..mine hated me before we met

Phil, I've been through this with my mom and dad, who eventually moved to Las Vegas a good thirty years ago. You and your wife need to have a united front and set ground rules early. The most important one that we had to put in place was:
"Do not come over unless you have been invited, or have called to ensure that we are available and want company." Now, how to enforce it? True story. We were newly married and my mom and dad started to just "drop by" after church on Sunday. I asked that they call first, but in the world before cell phones... it was inconvenient. Since we were young, and Sunday was the only day that we had off together... we were doing "what comes naturally" when the doorbell rang. I threw on a pair of jeans and answered the front door with these words: Do You ever want grandkids? No, you can't visit. Please call next time." And I closed the door. Got an apology the next day and they always called before they visited! Hopefully, your MIL is a bit more genteel than my mom was and she'll take the hint and call first. And you know... now that I think about it, from the day I moved out of my parents home, I never "just stopped by." It's a respect thing. Well, I did once, which I'll tell about later in this thread. Promise. It was funny as anything I've ever done. |
You are screwed.

I always joke that I like my in-laws better than I like my wife's in-laws.

This I am not actually worried about. They really are super good people and very respectful. I am more concerned that I will be expected and voluntold by my bride to be their handyman, gutter cleaner, snow mover, etc slave. That will be an issue at some point I fear. But of course my wife will say I am wrong. Quote:

as long as the MIL is NOT Marie Barone.. you should survive..good luck
BTW MIL visiting= more range time-- you win! |

Hey Donut boy! I IDOLIZED my MIL. There wasn't anything that I wouldn't have done to see that she enjoyed life. I would gladly mow her lawn, clean her gutters, do her shopping for her. Heck, I'd even smoke meats for her parties with her girlfriends. Just so long as she calls before she comes over. ROFL. sometimes I amuse even myself.

Quit yer bitchen.....My MIL has lived with us for most of our marriage. Only in the past few years has she been spending more time in the PI's. It was like having free baby sitting, house keeping and a cook. My MIL always respected me and vice versa, I always respected her. Whenever Mayla and I had disagreements or fights, she would always take my side. hehehehe.
I have zero complaints. |
My current one refused to come to our wedding, even though my father in law officiated (state overseer of the Church Of God in Texas) They now reside in Tennessee, and I remain here. Works out well

But don't fret they'll let you back in the house on holidays... hehehehe. Yes Phil you are wrong, you (like the rest of us with testicles) were born wrong. Get over it, press on and keep doing the right things for wife and family. Quote:

well that's good. Now we can make all kind of references and he'll be none the wiser...evilnanner
I don't think Sheldon's going to be any help here... Not with Phil thinking like Howard and living in the Amy Farrah Folwer zone. Knock, Knock, Knock... Phil Maybe we should switch to something further out there... like "I'm sorry Phil, but I can't open the escape pod right now." |
Wayyyyy over my head....i need a translator
|
Big Bang Theory? I checked Netflix and Amazon Prime and couldn't find it.
Must be one of those ancient technology Network TV Shows. :p People still watch those??? http://www.cotep.org/forum/picture.p...&pictureid=888 |

Oh, right...Cable TV...
That was that massive scam that tricked people into paying ever increasing monthly fees for Commercial Television shows that they could get for free with an antenna. If you use the black snake to just get Internet, then you can watch all kinds of things WHEN YOU WANT for a fraction of the cost. http://www.cotep.org/forum/picture.p...&pictureid=888 |
lol...we have cable too, I just never watch it. Kaden likes PBS a lot and the wife has to have HGTV...I can go without anytime.
