New Gun Closet
My wife and I have lived in our townhouse for almost 10 years and we decided to do a little renovation of our bedroom. We had this closet that was off to the side and not really useable.
https://i.imgur.com/BPTTLlJl.jpg We're changing the door to a steel door and had a light and power outlet put in the closet. Two walls are concrete block, the thirds facing the top of a two story room, so those walls are pretty secure. I ordered this kit today to make this into a gun closet. https://www.secureitgunstorage.com/p...ll-gun-room-3/ Can’t wait to get this set up and have a more secure way to store my guns. |
That’s going to be awesome...... please keep us updated with your progress.

Nice. Will be watching this with great interest.

Cool! We want to see the finished product. Unlike my house... it is the gun closet. They are everywhere.:D

Right? How can anyone live like that, the horror! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Sounds like a great project, definitely looking forward to your updates. What will be the interior dimensions when completed?

The closet is 35”x25”. The panels are 17.25”x36” and 17.25”x16”. The kit I got came with two of the 16-inch panels and four of the larger ones. My plan is to put two large panels stacked on the back and side wall and the two shorter panels on the side with the electrical outlet for supplies and magazines. Can’t wait to get it to start playing. |

Have you considered installing one of those safe doors (steel door with a combo)?

Yes, but it was way out of my budget for now. |

You would have to reinforce the wall for the heavier door and frame.
I would do a secret bookshelf entrance, that would be sick! Wouldn’t it be cool to have a house big enough to have a secret passageway or room? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Any progress made on the project?

I had been waiting on the kit to arrive. It was delivered today. So it’s getting closer. I probably won’t be able to work on it this week, so it will be next week before I get more progress. Here is the panel that forms the back of the system. This is one of two small panels. I also got four large panels which are the same width but twice as tall. https://i.imgur.com/Lnz57Mal.jpg The kit also comes with a large shelf, three narrow shelves, and four bins (seen here). https://i.imgur.com/IBivcj7l.jpg There are six pistol stands. The stick is covered in a plastic covering, but I’ll still need to be careful when putting the guns on. They sell a unit that puts four or five on a single stand but I didn’t get that. I may add it later because if I add anymore pistols, I’ll need more. https://i.imgur.com/BLGbBrPl.jpg Then finally, there are the rifle stands. The base will hold two rifles, side by side. https://i.imgur.com/ApjcEXTl.jpg Then the top of each rifle, it gets one of these with a built in bungee to hold the barrel secure. https://i.imgur.com/1PoBsthl.jpg I plan on stacking two of the tall panels on the back wall and two on the side wall. I’ll put the two shorter panels on the other side wall and probably have the bins there for magazines and accessories. Cool thing is if what I first try doesn’t work, I’ll just redo it. Wished I had time this week to do more plan. But it’s a crazy work week. |
By the way, there are 18 rifle stands in the kit I got, so I’ll have plenty of room to expand my rifle collection.
Here is the video I originally saw on this system. https://youtu.be/otXg9JfdW5o |
Just realized I counted wrong. I have four pistol stands and two AR15 magazine holders.
https://i.imgur.com/SG6AfqI.jpg So I will need to order extra pistol stands. But for now I have a good start. |

The closet doesn’t have full studs so my contractor is going to have to do a little work before the panels can be attached. I’m so anxious for his to get done.
|
Yeah, want to do it right the first time so as not to have any issues later on.
Patiently waiting on your progress reports though. :D |
That looks pretty cool.

So we got the panels installed today. Since there were very few studs in these walls, we used plywood to attach them securely. Now just need to start configuring them.
https://i.imgur.com/rObCnSDl.jpg Keypad lock https://i.imgur.com/tYodCKgl.jpg Small panels on the side and large panels in the back and side. I have room to add two large panels below the small ones if I need them later. We started them about 10 inches off the floor (trim is 4” and we started 6” above that). So the tall panels come up to just over 6 feet tall. https://i.imgur.com/RwgW0Dsl.jpg Here’s a basket to show how they snap in place. So this weekend, I’ll play with the configuration and see what I end up with. |
that's great. I like the button lock on the door for quick entry if need be.

The biggest issue with that is that the lock beeps when you hit the buttons. Fortunately, there’s a switch inside that allows me to turn that off. |
Looking good ! http://www.cotep.org/forum/images/icons/icon14.gif
