4”-5” Blades
What’s the best bang for the buck fixed blade in the 4” to 5” length? I’m leaning towards the Esee 4 or 5 (Rat 4, 5).
It’ll be more of a truck/bob blade for general use. If it fits the defensive roll as well then, that’s a plus. Budget: $150 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
I have the ESEE4 and like it, but keep the baby Kbar Mike Lutz sent as a truck knife. 3/4 scale
|
I will second on the ESEE knives...my personal favorite. I have 2 of them and both are great.
|
Definitely on the top of my list.... just seeing if there are any other good ones in that price range.

Depends on how tough, hard, corrosion resistant and wear resistant you want it, how and how good you are at sharpening. Some of the new super steels are amazing, but most are difficult to sharpen.

A local place has their stuff for sale, not a lot of options but let me check in the morning. You might get lucky...something you haven't been able to do for a while! |
Another option is the Spyderco Street Bowie. It’s what I carry as an EDC.
I have the ESEE as a truck knife, however. |

The Spyderco is mainly a defensive blade, correct? I’m looking for a “can do all” type of blade. If it can serve as a defensive blade as well then, it’s a plus. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Sorry, he doesn't have any 4" or 5" blades. He had 2 of the ESEE3 in shop. Like this one: https://eseeknives.com/product/esee-3
and some of the little pointer spear things. He said your (my price is $59) Shipping would be maybe another $10ish? Not sure but Its only a 3" blade so I know its smaller than you wanted. I have this blade and its one of my hunting favorites! sorry I couldn't be more help :( |
If you were really interested in waiting I could contact ESEE directly and get LEO pricing direct. It would take me a few days to get it but I would do it for you. Their direct pricing is pretty good if I remember correctly.

No worries bro, I appreciate it. I prefer the 4” for an all around knife. It’s up to you if you want to go through all that Jazz. If not, it’s no issue. I won’t have the money till next week anyhow and I’m still doing research on which one I want to purchase.

Good price IMO |
4”-5” Blades
I don’t know squat about the steels used in knives. On another forum I was told the 420hc (what the Gerber has) is very difficult to sharpen and the edge can chip real easily.
It was suggested I get this one instead.... https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...97e6f5bfba.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Just have LISA dig in her purse to let you buy an ESEE 6 and be done with it
|
Haha
I don’t know if I want a 6” blade for the role this knife will play...? B.O.B/ Get home bag. That’s why I’m thinking 4” would be the happy medium. I have a full size Ka-bar that Mr. Lutz gave me a while back but, I find it a little too big for my current bag/pack. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Check text. Sent a pic of my ESEE4 and Panther sheath
|
Nevermind..I forgot you get losthttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...9698071470.jpg

You know. I just realized I may have something you may like. Unfortunately, it’s in my truck right now in my go bag. I’ll get it out tomorrow take pics and research how much it is. I got it as a gift from my old unit. Liked it so much thought about getting another one.

So, the knife is DPX Gear H.E.S.T. Total length is 7 3/4 with a 3” cutting edge and a small spike in the pummel. Feels real good in the hand and very sturdy. I would make it a daily carry if it wasn’t for the sheath. The sheath is a full canvas. Doesn’t look like the company makes it anymore, but you can still find them. Amazon has one for $120.00. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...91c8791fe5.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...87647bf107.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...86d9c73158.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I like the blade shape for sure. What’s the notch on top of the blade for? Looks like it can be used to tighten/loosen an AR15 muzzle device. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
